New Commander Of Reserve Group
CAPE MAY - Commander Michael T Bohlman relieved Capt. Edward E. Tyson as group commander of U.S. Coast Guard Reserve Group Cape May. in a full dress | ceremony at the U.S. Coast Guard Training Center here. Oct. 26. Reserve Group Cape May is a group command consisting of subordinate units including Cape MayAir Station and Rescue Stations at Atlantic City, Ocean City and Cape May. N.J.. and Indian River. Del., which augment active duty stations at the same locations on a weekend basis. SPECIAL GUESTS, who also gave remarks at the ceremony, included Rear Adm. D.W. Fredericks. USCGR, the Senior Reserve Officer. USCG : Capt J.C. Uithol, USGC, commanding officer. Coast Guard Training Center. Cape May; and Com. P A P A. Wendt, USCG. com mander. Coast Guards Group Cape May Com Wendt is the active-duty counterpart of the Reserve Group Commander. After inspecting the assembly of all the Reserve Group's units and their officers. Capt. Tyson turned over his command to Com Bohlman. COMMANDER Bohlman is a graduate of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy with a B.S. in Engineering In 1966 he was commissioned an ensign and spent nine and a half years on active duty. His tours of duty included four years on the Coast Guard Cutters
Owasco and Burton Island as engineering officer He spent two years at the University of Maryland and earned a M.S. degree in Chemical Engineering. In the last few years of active duty he was stationed at Coast Guard Headquarters. in Washington. D.C., as chief of the Packaged Cargo Branch. There he served on many various committees and delegations representing the Coast Guard in regard to dangerous goods and their safe handling and transportation. IN 1976 BOHLMAN left active duty to accept a position with Sea Land Services, and is now their director of equipment engineering. He began his reserve duty in that same year. CDR Bohlman's assignments in the Coast Guard Reserve have been operations and augmentation officer at Reserve Gfodo Sandy Hook CO of •^Reserve Unit Sandy Hook ; hazardous materials program manager at Reserve Unit B. Governor's Island; CO of Reserve Unit B. Governors Island; deputy group commander of reserve Group Governors Island, and Deputy Group Commander. Reserve Group Sandy Hook. CRD BOHLMAN attended courses in Search and Rescue and Reserve Officer Orientation, and holds current indicators for experience in Readiness and Maritime Safety. Bohlman is married to the former Mary Elizabeth Parker of Norwich. Conn. They have two daughters, Maggie and Amy. and reside in Fair Haven.
