Avalon Senior Citizens Assoc. (ASCO) will be on the go right up 'til Christmas. On Nov. 21 they're taking a bus trip to see Three Little Bakers and Dec. 19 they'll journey to Lancaster County^ and scout PennsylvaniaQJuteh country. As usual both tours sold out immediately. They started rehearsals • Nov. 12 for their innovative Christmas program, to be held noon. Dec. 12 in the Deauville Inn. Strathmere. Anthony and Cecile Colemeni are accepting reservations for members and their guests — phone 465-7250. The Colemenis. formerly of Stone Harbor, are completing renovation of the 250-year-old home they bought in Court House. Anthony. whose hobby is designing and building doll houses, is anxious to finish this massive job of restoration and return to creating a replica of Scarlett O'Hara's Tara for his granddaughter. • • • STON E 11 A R B () R Seniors presented their first Member of the Year Award to Ray deLaurentis , of 10901 Second Ave. Nov. 6 at the monthly business meeting. Ray. a talented, retired professional musician. has been a contributing member of the organization for nine years, providing live music for all events His engraved plaque reads: "for many years of dedicated service to people of every age". His friend. Councilman Harry Strohmetz made the presentation, which drew standing applause from the audience. Ray's two daughters. Jane and Bunny. had slipped into the room during the excitement and beamed as Seniors' prexy JerryRowland pinned an orchid on their mother, Marcelle deLaurentis. Other attraction of the big night was a squaredance exhibition by the Wheeler-Dealers. Dot

Wheeler brought five couples she has ben teaching at the Senior Citizens' Center in North Wildwood. All 10 displayed expertise and enthusiasm to the extent it drew S.H. Seniors into the act at its conclusion. Planned events are: Nov. 20. Icncheon at Careme's; Dec. 4. Christmas party at school; and Dec. 18. bus trip and lunch at Wheaton Village with its 15-ft. Christmas tree. GOT A POSTCARD from Monkton. MD. sent by Catherine McMenamin. who was on Avalon Garden Club's tour of Ladew Topiary Garden. Thirtyseven members went on the trip and we called prexy Betty (Mrs. Dick) Light to see how it went. She was ecstatic about it. Her descriptions are great and she told us that while the gardens are fascinating, with shrubs trimmed to resemble a fox hunt complete with fox. horses, dogs and huntsmen. and best part was the house. Built by Harvey Ladew. one of the fortunate few. the magnificent estate was designed to provide every luxury an owner could want. Wonderfully wealthy, he never had to work and was able to devote his time to hunting and surrounding himself and his houseguests with beaii^^ Betty said. "It's much more like visiting a friend's home than a museum ". Ladew had famous friends like the Roosevelts. Duke and Duchess of Windsor, etc. Their signed photos are all over and while the mansion is opulent, it's also warm and welcoming. We can't wait to see it but the garden Is closed for the season. Next event for the / Garden Club is one ofy. Karen Andrus' interesting programs titled Victorian Flowers at 10 a.m, Nov. 18 in the Avalon Room of Borough Hall.
