B Scarecrow (Polygram' finds John Cougar Melleng camp in excellent form £ These tales of midwest fife U have pulled out consistently stirring vocal perforg mances from Mellencamp. ~ who obviously passionately fl believes in the lyrics he's written. Even those who have 2 grown tired of his "James fl l)ean"-like stance should ■
respect this piece of work, as it's all-too-rate in mainstream rock these days to find an entertainer who knows there's more to life than stardom and a heavv rotation video". ONE OF THE big mysteries in rock is why John Hiatt hasn't been able to make a serious dent in the charts. For several years, he.'s released some of the most consistent albums of any performer,, yet only a small cult of fans seem to know he even exists. Warming Up To The Ice Age 'Geffeni might be his best. yet. The songs are melodic. R&B inspired rockers that perfectly suit his rich, commanding voice The duet. "Living a Little. Laughing a Little." he sings with Elvis Costello has to be regarded one of the best records of 1985, and the rest of the album isn't far behind. Hiatt is certainly worthy of your support. IN THE MID-70's Chicago-area bred Cheap Trick seemed to be the perfect blend of melodic. Beatles-influenced, pop and the power of heavy metal, yet as the decade drew to a close and the 80s crept upon us. Cheap Trick became more metal than pop. alienating many of their most ardent followers. Standing On The Edge (Epic i is the effort their early supporters kept hop ing they had in them, and once hearing this it comes as no surprise that Cheap Trick is back on the charts. Guitarist Kick Nielsen has composed, with the others helping out. a strong batch of tunes that neatly Show off his abilities as a musician and the appealing I voice of Robin Zander. Hopefully. Cheap Trick will continue in this direction as the group is too smart to play heavy metal. Get Out Of My Room ( MCA ) is the hilarious new comedy album for Cheech and Chung. No longer relying on "drug humor". Cheech and Chong succeed thanks their spoof of college radio and the delightful send-up of Bruce Springsteen in In East L.A.." Get Out Of My Room is a lot of fun and. hopefully, the duo will be back on the big screen, where they belong, before too long.
