Birdbander To Tell '. Amateur ' Career

STONE HARBOR - Erma "Jonnie" Fisk, long time friend and honorary trustee of the Wetlands Institute. will be the featured speaker 8:15 p.m. Saturday. Nov. 30 at the Institute's Marshview Lecture Hall A resident of Massachusetts. Mrs. Fisk. who terms herself a selftaught. psuedo-ornitholog-ist, has banded birds over the last 30 years from Ecuador to Capada. Her most concentrated work was done on her own station in south Florida for over 10 years. SHE IS THE author of two books, the first of which. Peacocks of Baboquivori, tells about the winter she spent weathered in on a mountain ranch in Southwest Arizona without communications, making a bird survey for The Nature Conservancy. Her second book. Parrots Wood, which was recently released, is a journal laid in Belize. Central America, where she was on a bird banding expedition from Manomet Bird Observatory. Mrs. Fisk's slide lecture. "The Life and Times of j Birdbander #7081", is an overview of 30 years of an amateur birdbander who "kept putting one foot in front of another but neglected to look where she was going." HER TALK is informal, dealing with her widow's philosophy of saying yes to whatever came adong that had to do with bjfds. Following h or lecture, the board of triKtees of the Institute will present Mrs. Fisk with the 19B5 Wetlands Institute Gonservation/Naturaj History Award, in recognition of her many efforts to protect and conserve the environCeramics Workshop CAPE MAY — A ceramic workshop, featuring an introductory course in basic handbuilding and wheel throwing techniques is planned by the Cape MayCounty Art League The course will be offered *7-10 p.m. Wednesdays, and there will be a charge plus cost of materials.
