(From Page 17) used for setting rates. Letters spelling out details of the charges will be received by residents and businessmen within the week. While still at the lectern he was joined by chamber prexy Jim Fisher, who said. "Don't sit down Harry," then turning to the audience, said: "This is the year people are honoring Harry Strohmetz for his many years of dedicated service to the borough, we'd like to honor him also" and presented him with a handsome wall clock bearing an engraved plaque. THE HIGHLY respected councilman, visibly moved. responded, "What can I say?... I am awed." So the evening ended on a happy note after a sad beginning when guests were informed of the death of Henry and Norman Blum's father and asked for a minute of silence in his memory. At the business meeting, 1986 officers were introduced. they are. R. Jack Fitzpatrick, president; Vince Egan. 1st vp; Larry Hanker. 2nd vp; and Al Meadow croft, treasurer. CHAMBER secretaryPat Wolf asked for volunteers to help her pro-
duce the chamber booklet; Jack Fitzpatrick announced a new game (similar to Monopoly ) employing the names of S.H. businesses, recreations and public buildings, called The Game of Stone Harbor should be available in April with $1 royalty accruing to the chamber on each sale; and Fisher told members that the Red Cross. C. of C. and merchants of the borough have joined forces to sponsor An American Christmas this year. Program includes: fashion shows. Christmas concert by Coast Guard Band, island house tour. Red. Cross Ball, and much more including a raffle of a trip for two to Williamsburg. Raffle tickets .will be in all stores and proceeds will benefit the Red Cross. This year's chamber Christmas party will be held at Golden Inn in Avalon, Dec. 16. AVALON'S Performing Arts Center and the Upper Cape Chapter of Deborah Heart Foundation light up our lives a couple of times each year. November 17 was such an occasion. They made it possible to take a Sentimental Journey with our own piano virtuoso Melba Pope. Tommy Ferguson, talented
guitahst and music conductor;' organist Bobbie Kaye, presently in Fantasy Follies in Miami, back in Wildwood in May; Victor Garleitas, nationally known alto sax player and flutist; symphonist Paul Felings. a Wildwood High graduate; and Kathy Dee. a vocalist with roots in Wildwood and Pennsylvania. whose big-league voice could drown Ethel Merman's and has the wistful appeal of JudyGarland's. For Big Band addicts or music lovers of any ilk, the concert was a dream come true. Half way through the first offering, we felt 30 years younger; by concert's end all littie-town blues were dispersed. We'd be sick if we couldn't recapture some of the magic provided, but we can hear marvelous Melba at Tridi-Joe's and Kathy Dee, who is minutes away from displacing Streisand, will be playing in Wildwood in May. We believe Kathy 's is a major talent. Russell and Becky Baily had one of their beautiful brunches Nov. 17. As usual when Becky unleashes her formidable culinary talent, this was a classic. We are aficionadas of Melbatoasted bagel chips and hers are the greatest with that special hot cheese spread. Jane (Mrs. Carey) Boss was there suffering from butterflies because she and Carey will be babysitting granddaughter Sarah Van Horn while her parents are in San Franciso for a week. Becky's brunch list is generally regional in nature and because Henrietta (Hank) Haig couldn't make one Avalon party she came to this one — it was our gain. GRACE McMENAMY and lone Pope gave an elegant cocktail bash at the latter's home on First Avenue, Nov. 18. Every guest who visits Ione's (Page 20 Please)
