Victorian Christmas Joys Reborn f$ilf

CAPE MAY - Today peaceful gas-lit streets with garlands of greenery decorating porches and lampposts in this Victorian city offer a much-needed change from the hustlebustle world outside. Special family-oriented activities from a Christmas parade to a tree-lighting and carolling ceremony recapture the Victorian aspects of Christmas, the friendliness and fun of Christmas in a small town. The festive holiday season will begin with the Christmas Parade 7 p.m. Saturday. Dec. 7. on Broadway in West Cape May. A variety of home-crafted and professional floats by churches and civic organizations will be featured, along with the fun of the village fire trucks bedecked with lights. Clowns, bands, and of course Santa Claus will be marching in the parade, which will conclude with ihc awarding of trophies and dancing at Borough Hall. 732 Broadway. West Cape May. ALSO SPONSORED by the City of Cape May and by the Vintage Home owners Association will be the tree lighting ceremony and community Christmas Carolling 7 p.m. Sunday. Dec. 8. at the Victorian bandstand on Lafayette Street in Rotary Park The Ministerium of Cape Mayencourages parishioners to continue the tradition of

carolling throughout the streets during the holiday season. The Cape May County Art League will sponsor several holiday events for guests to the city. Visitors can shop for special one-of a-kind works of art and handmade crafts as well as special Christmas season items at the league's annual Christmas Bazaar this Saturday and Sunday at its headquarters in the carriage house of the Physick Estate. 1050 Washington St. ON SUNDAY, Dec. 1, there will also be a special opening for the Members' Show, which will hang through Dec. 31. The Art League's hours during December will be 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m on Sundays. Admission is free On Saturday. Dec. 7, members and friends are invited to the annual Art League Christmas Party at 1 p.m. The fanciful houses in gingerbread, frosting, and decorative candies created by Cape May county cooks will be on display at the County Art League from Friday. Dec. 13. through Saturday. Dec 28. when the ticket -holders on the Christmas Candlelight House tour will vote to select the favorite houses. All will be made entirely of gingerbread, and onlyedible items will be used to decorate them. THE HIGH POINT of the

holiday season is the Christmas Candlelight House Tour sponsored by the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts 6-10 p.m. Saturday. Dec. 28. This gala event is a self-guided tour of more than a dozen homes and churches specially decorated for this most festive time of the year. The gingerbread houses will be on display during the Candlelight Tour at the Art league and ticket holders will have the honor of selecting the winning entries.
