GpXVfa By Charles Lamey (From Page 47) a remarkable job with their book San Francisco Nights The Psychedelic Music Trip 1965- 1968 (St. Martin's Press) in capturing the facts as well as an aura of an era that unfortunately couldn't have lasted longer. These were wild, colorful. and optimistic times and San Francisco was the spiritual center of what was going on. There are some great tales in this book, along with some wonderful photos, all of which should have children of the 60's returning to some classic records that have been collecting dust for far too long. ONE OF THE most vital San Francisco bands, The Greatful Dead, just celebrated its 20th anniversary and its fans, lovingly known as Deadheads, are advised to seek out David Gans and Peter Simon's Playing In The Band (St. Martin's Press) and Paul I Grushkin. Cynthia Bassett. I and Jonas Grushkin's The I Official Book Of The I Deadheads (Quill). The former uses quotes I from band members, I friends, and fans to tell the I history of the band in a I spry, fun fashion, while the I latter is more of a scrapI book for the dedicated, who I already know the Dead's I story. Both are chock full of I incredible photographs and I illustrations that should I impress even those who I aren't moved by The I Grateful Dead's music.
