Students Give Food to Needy
TUCKAHOE - Young members of the Parkway South Seventh Day Adventist School distributed food baskets to needy area families yesterday. The youths, students at the school, conducted a can gathering on Halloween in place of the customary trick or treat. The 613 cans of food they received from Upper Township residents were augmented with fruits and vegetables from the church's community services center.
Dale Lee, principal, who directed the food distribution, said this is the second year that the school has worked with the center in giving out Thanksgiving baskets. "We cooperate with city and county agencies and got names from them for
our program," he said. "It is our hope there will be no hungry people in our community this Thanksgiving Day." Parents of the students as well as volunteers from the Parkway South Adventist Church used their cars for food distribution.

EEtMA — On Dec. 4, a symphony of busy typewriters will be heard at Lower Cape May Regional High School. Enthusiastic. students at the high school will be typing away to help raise money to white-out Leukemia. The students will be participating in the 3rd annual Type-A-Thon sponsored by the Southern New Jersey Chapter of the Leukemia Society of America, Inc. Last year the event raised $23,000, with 27 high schools participating. Joanne Messick and Kathleen Parker will coordinate the event. The entire school is invited to participate, regardless of typing ability. "THE GOAL of each participant is to type as many correct words per minute as possible, while encouraging friends and family for pledges," Ms. Messick explained. "We are hoping for a very enthusiastic response
from the student body and the community." "This is a really worthwhile effort for our students," added Ms. Parker. "They are able to learn while helping other people." Leukemia kills more children than any other disease, yet strikes and kills more adults each year than children. "The money raised by the students at Lower Cape MayRegional will be used forresearch to find the cause, control and cure of leukemia, as well as aid to patients in our local area." Aux.
