It's a tough week to do a i column. Fifty 'percent of I the entire population of I Five Mile Beach is preparI ing to board planes for sunnier climates elsewhere. Florida no doubt. Organization have put a I brief hold on their acI tivitics as the holiday ' season arrives. The remaining residents who aren't jetting off somewhere have taken to their living rooms and kit chens. and even the slightest of gossipy tidbits is hard to find This week I have watched chicken pox recede from m> youngest son. only to erupt simultaneously upon my eldest. In their invalid state, they have had nothing better to do than compile the world's longest list of "wants" to lie sent to Santa Claus. (TIICKKN I'OX in the summer would be easier to, handle. The only solace I $ the situation is that there is an outbreak of the "dreaded dots" in the schools and I know that other parents are reviewing the same equally long list of "I wish I would get . . . " There are easy weeks to do a column, so-so weeks, terrible weeks, and then there are weeks like this one. Celery to the left of me awaiting its cream cheese and olive filling; a cavernous turkey to the right of me pleading to be stuffed, and empty pie shells sitting about wondering why they weren't filled. Why'.' Because the editor of this fine news journal, now ambulatory after a bout with a bad back, has moved up the deadline for submission by two full days. Holidays are delightful, but this still is a tough week to do a column! II Kt EMItER PROMISES to be a belter month I have heard from quite a few organizations and individuals with activities to mention and bazaars for vou to attend Here are a few The First Baptist Church. Maple and Allantic Avenues, is hosting a church bazaar and baked goods sale tomorrow and Friday at the church building The event will
commence 10:00 a.m. and run until 3 p.m. both Thursy day and Friday. If I may suggest, attend o the Baptist bazaar Friday f and then travel south to the 0 First Methodist Church at Fern and Atlantic Avenues l> for its bazaar and roast s heel dinner The scheduled dinner and bazaar will begin at 1 1 p.m Friday and conclude 9 at 7 p.m. Dinner will be i served -1 p.m until closing. I Tickets may be purchased 1 I at the door. it • • • I IF YOl IIAVKN'T been > able to locate that special present at either of the ' church bazaars, plan to at- > ✓ lend the Wildwood Crest f Ambulance Corps reclaim- • ed fur sale Sunday. The sale will feature reclaimed I furs at outrageously lowprices. Scheduled for 10 a m and for one day only, the fur sale is part of the fund rais1 ing activities of the Corps. It's a good cause and the prices are right. The ambulance corps building is at 9300 Pacific Ave. If you still haven't had enough, the Wildwood Crest PTC is hosting a shopping spree to King of Prussia Shopping Mall Dec. 11. This day-long excursion will feature a visit to the AM Philadelphia show. During your return, you will be side-tracked for dinner and a tour at the Renault Winery in Egg Harbor Township. For further information and reservations call either Sandy Accardi at 729-9274 or Margaret Visalli at 522-2910. PERHAPS THE best part of the Christmas Season is the variety of choral and musical con certs that the various schools present during the season They are always enjoyable and well attended I have heard from two schools that have scheduled presentations for the public. The first is schedul & ed for Dec. 12 at the Wildwood Catholic High ^ School Auditorium The » even! is sponsored by the ^ Parents of Catholic » Students q The entertaining evening i will l»egin 7 30 p.m and in 4 addition to the music i refreshments will be serv 4 ed If your Christmas I spirits are lagging liehuul 9 the season, plan to attend ^ The second Christmas «L presentation is being ™ hosted at Crest Memorial 1 School The date is Dec. 17 . and the Gala Christmas JL Concert will commence . promptly at 7:30 p.m in the & school's all purpose room The school is at 9100 Pacific & Avenue, two blocks away from the Crest Ambulance 2^ Corps building, so look for • it when you go to purchase 4 vour reclaimed fur coat j, i*18 ... i I'M SI RE THAT by next q week's column. I will have t located and/or heard from ^ many more organizations, t so stay tuned While I'm • mentioning all of these
I bazaars, feasts, concerts, and festivities. I'll give you another one of my great I ideas ! It would be great if all of the organizations interested in hosting a Christmas bazaar would band together and simultaneously host their events in Wildwood's Convention Hall. Imagine a week -long Schedule of bazaars and community get -togetherness Sort of like an indoor shopping mall for reduced rate items and reclaimed furs. Baked goods would abound, food offerings could be eaten at a seating section off to the side. The various choral and band groups could take their turn entertaining the masses with brief interludes during the evenings. Parking would be no problem. The facility is huge Of course. Santa would be in attendance and the mayor could give something to somebody The only drawback that I can see is that it would take less copy to report on one event than on the multitude that confronts us now. That would make a tough week's column all that more difficult. I guess I could adjust and offer my Sun Tan Tips Part II. I think it would be a good idea. Think about it. You have a whole year to make up your mind And what would Christmas be without a parade? This year, the Center City Merchants ol Wildwood are planning their seasonal fling Dec 14 That is a Saturday and the parade is tentatively set for 1 p.m along PacificAvenue ON THE Bl'SI XESS scene a merger has been announced Several columns ago-five, to be exact we reported that Haynes Realtv was in the midst of
either an expansion or a merger with another agency. Too many light-lipped people to report the whole story until this week. It seems that the Haynes Agency, with offices in North Wildwood and Wildwood Crest, has merg ed with the Ditler-Farina Agency of Stone Harbor In this aggressive marketing move, the firm intends to become larger with expansions slated into several Cape May County communities. Is this the wave of the future? Many think so. Presently there are more than 30 real estate offices on our island. That is a lot for a grouping of communities the size of Five Mile Beach. I have heard several Realtor associates talking about obtaining their brokers' licenses and joining in a cooperative effort to corner the market. It should be interesting.
