MUA's Base Rate To Hold Until 1987

SVVAINTON - The Cape May Municipal Utilities Authority has announced that its base rate for refiLse deposited at its sanitary landfill won't change until at least Jan 1. 1985. although the fee will increase this year because of state-mandated | taxes. A hearing on the rate schedule has been scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Dec. 12. at the authority's headquarters on Koutc 9 here. •TIIKCOMBINKD effect of additional taxes and sta tutory charges w ill be to increase the authority's cur rent user fees for solid waste disposal by $105 per ton of refuse received, or approxi mately 3.65 percent over our current rates." said Theodore F. O'Neill. CMCMUA solid waste manager For the average house hold, these additional taxes and charges will add approximately $1.70 to $2. to a year to the current cost of refuse disposal." The new charges are a result of an amendment to the New Jersey Solid Waste Management Act. O'Neill said. TIIKAMKNDMK.Vr calls for an increase in the resource recovery investment tax of $1 per ton and an increase in the solid waste services tax of 5 cents per ton.

"The authority's base user fee for solid waste disposal. excluding all state-mandated taxes and other charges." O'Neill said, "is not proposed to be changed until Jan. 1. 1987." O'Neill said that additional changes are also being proposed in the authority's standard terms and conditions tor the use of the sanitary landfill and trans fer station.
