I have always liked the ■ expression, "keepinp H Christmas." Victorian writer Charles ■ Dickens, at the end of A ■ ClirLvimas Carol, mentions I that it was said of the converted Kbenczer Scrooge that he knew how to "keep Christmas" as well as any man Kasily. the word means to "observe." suggesting that one would just not let Christmas pass unnoticed i as if that were really possible i . The Oxford Enplish Die tionary. however, notes that the word originated among the lower classes in England around the year USX) A.I), as an emphaticversion of the word hold to hold and guard closely something hard-won and precious. that I keep Christmas in I a special way is already up9 parent to our neighbors 9 here in the northern part of H Swainton on Itmito tl. TIIKSK IMKCKS and the little people and buildings that go with them make great Christmas decorations whether used on the tree, in centerpieces, or simply placed around as part of the general holiday decor. Building blocks, dolls and hanks are also great old toys that work well into your holiday scheme. Try slipping an antique toy to your children along with all those new plasticcontraptions Here's something for them to keep and cherish rather than simply use up and discard. Santas and angels are also great Christmas collectibles. Many of the Victorian types are being reproduced with great success. I'LL IIAVK more to sayon Christmas collectibles as the season advances. There is something I forgot Jo mention in last week's article on the Cape May County Museum. The museum offers memberships for as little as $6 a year. When you drop by there this season las you promised you would i make sure to ask for a membership form. Your dues include free admission to the museum, copies of its quarterly and yearly publications, and lots of other goodies. Thanks to those who have sent letters. Please be patient. I have already made a New Year's resolution to answer them all in this space right after the holidays.
