Old Court House To be Rededicated
COURT HOUSE - The newly refurbished Old Court House Building here will be rededicated in ceremonies 10: 30 a m Friday. Dec 13. it was anno u n e e d today byFreeholder Ralph W. Evans, director of the county's Department of Facilities and Services. The renovation work was done largely with county equipment and employes and has been in progress over the last three years. In announcing the rededicalion ceremonies. Evans said the Open House following the ceremonies will afford an opportunity for all to tour this historic building which has been in continuous use and has served as a landmark since it was built in 1R4R. DURING THIS project there were extensive renovations made to the
heating system Steam lines which ran through the court room and violated the historically significant pressed metal ceiling were removed A new hot water baseboard system was installed and is in operation. The antique jury chairs have been stripped and refinished. The building was repainted inside and out. Paddle fans were installed and structural changes were made to the dais to permit visual contact between the judge and tlie juries serving at trials m the historic building. Carpeting was added. A new rest room accessible to handicapped persons was installed The floor and the rest room in the judges' chambers were replaced. IN WORK DONE around the exterior of the building, the sidewalks were replaced with brick walkways, street lamps were relocated and the dome - was refinished with 24 ' karat gold leaf. Sod was i placed and a sprinkler | system was installed, i Outside contractors were utilized to do the gold leaf work on the dome, install the carpeting and the new heating system and remove the old steam lines. In announcing the rededication. Freeholder Evans said the project was y part of a consistent effort to I raise the level of | maintenance on county ! buildings. •THIS PROJECT truly reflects what can be accomplished when management and employes work together as a team toward achievement of a common objective." E"ans said. I "We wish to thank all of the 1 county employes for their dedication to excellence and job well done." The county employes were supervised by William Howell, who ^directed the activity on the ff walks, and sod and the I sprinkler system on the ** outside of the building: Kay Meyer, who was in charge of the painting, and l Charles Twonley and ^Clarence Tomlin. who supervised carpentry and f construction V The public is invited to )the open house
