Helping Hand For The Holidays "To everything there is a season ..." The spirit of the holiday season pervades our homes, our lives and our hearts. While this * is a time of abundancv for many people, it can also be a time of poignancy and despair for others. F.ach year the Herald newspapers run a Helping Hand feature that tells about some of the needs of people and organizations in our area. Gifts of donated items, volunteer time and money are always needed. This is the season to bestow blessings ... — Libby Dcmp Forrest I Wf k Doris Word LOOKING AHEAD — A battered woman and her child are given a few presents by C.A.R.A. helpers. They are looking forward to a better life - but it will take time. Battered and hungry women, and their children, are often forced to leave their homes in the middle of the night, salvaging only a few pitiful possessions and the clothes they are wearing. Fifteen Cape May County women and their children right now need clothing. Pampers, food (non-perishable items), socks, underclothes, gloves, scarves and hats. Housed temporarily at a crisis center in Atlantic County, they are helped to get on their feet by the Coalition for Rape and Abuse (C.A.R.A.). funded by the Human Services Coalition. While at the Shelter they must search for a place to live for themselves and their children. Most will go on Welfare while struggling to keep from returning to their old lives. Most have no extra money to afford Christmas things for their children. The Coalition Against Rape and Abuse is accepting donations for Christmas baskets for needy women and children.
