so they have nothing to compare it to but we've been told that management was so cooperative everyone enjoyed working on the project and sales were so brisk they'll surely continue this on their annual program. THE WOMEN'S Auxiliary of Avalon/Stone Harbor Post of the American Legion were shocked to learn from one of its members, Ruth Embarger of Avalon Manor, about the needs of veterans living at the New Jersey State Memorial Home in Vineland. It houses more than 300 veterans and/or veterans' wives in private | rooms. So far as we could j tell, this is their only luxury! i Avalon Manor Improvement Association will be hosting 60 vets who are ambulatory or in wheel chairs, at a Christmas dinner in Community Hall Friday, Dec. 20. TTie association asked Post 331 for help in collecting gifts for those attending the party as well as some to send to the home. WHEN AUXILIARY president Gladys Heise read the list of veterans' gift requests everyone was appalled! These were not pretty or interesting presents the residents desired, they were necessities. Toothpaste, stationery, pens, shoelaces and long terry cloth bibs were all on the list — the most frivolous rei quest on it was for houseI plants to brighten their 3 rooms. When we think what f these people have given up I for their country it is a dismal thought that their needs are not promptly met. The Auxiliary immediately voted to send $100 to the Improvement Association to help with the party and $50 to be sent to the home. Post officers sent $150 to the Memorial Hospital plus numerous individual donations. FRANK HEISE of 24 Hallman Rd.. Stone Harbor Manor, shot an eight-point deer the first day of the hunting season Dec 9 Said Frank. "I spotted and got it in" Lower Township, not too far from Huff's farm, across the airfield. It was the first deer I shot in New Jersey, weighed 118 pounds, a nice rack — I had it mounted." We just hope Santa won't be missing part of his team next week. ... 3 WENT TO THE county Chamber of Commerce's first informal After-Hour Mixer cocktail party Dec. 12 at Snickers. We weren't anxious to go to another party during this harried season but are awfully glad we did. Crowd was just the right size to permit mobility and conversation. Most of the officers of the chamber were there, of course, and we got to chat with Bonnie and George Feise, Dennis Curley and Freeholder Bill Storm among others. Also got to meet some new faces. Barbara and Joseph • Palma were there, talking enthusiastically about plans for their campground Resort Campground & Country Club (they bought the old Yogi Bear and renamed it) at 107 Route 9 in Ocean View. ITS IN FOR a major upgrading in every aspect, since they want seasonal (Page 34 Please)
