Santa's early this year. | THE CHRISTMAS party I of Stephen C. Ludlam Post [ of the American Legion Dec. 13 was perfect in j every respect. We're I relative newcomers but Jean Christie has been to 1 many of the post's notable Christmas affairs and she said "somehow this seems | the best of all". Guests arrived with presents for veterans at N.J. State Memorial ' Hospital in Vineland which I got everybody off to a good i start as others carried their culinary specialties to the kitchen police who arranged it on the groaning board in the big hall. And | we do mean specialties — no one professional

purveyor could have n catered to so many tastes. I DECORATIONS were t spectacular! Music by the i Lucky Lindys kept the r dance floor crowded. Post ? Commander Jim Daniel's • wife Gayle was belle of the ball as usual and watching Him and Joanne MacVaugh dance, kindles ' memories of Rogers and t Astaire. Other terpi sichorean twosomes were i Madilyn and Franklin Mc- • Clure. Eliie and Frank Smith and Jean and Wiley ' Christie. Bill (Fowler) Stratton cuts a mean rug too. Greatest thing about this party was you had the best of Avalon's and Stone Harbor's worlds. We couldn't count the number of people who said in amazement, "there are so many people here I don't know!" \ The post has simply taken off and we don't think the fabulous renovation is wholly responsible. Getting to know attractive persons you might otherwise not meet is like a shot in the arm — this is what the post offers, and it's getting plenty of takers, too. Employes of the Golden Inn in Avalon came up with a nifty idea for their annual Christmas Party. Instead of a gift exchange, each brought a wrapped toy for the Kiddies Toy Patrol of Wildwood, a project for needy children sponsored by area service clubs. JUST AS SADNESS is intensified at this time of year, happiness is magnified. Ran over to Michael and Mary's for a hairdo this morning and Mary Petosa's sister, Margaret Gurbe. is here for the holidays. Margaret is one of the fortunate few; she's shot with luck. She has been a frequent winner in the state lottery - not millions of dollars, you understand, just small sums and once. $500.
