The Middle School's Annual Christmas Concert was held in the school's all1 purpose room Dec. 12. The Symphonic Band under the direction of Richard Sterling performed "Baby Elephant Walk" by Henry Mancini. "Passacagiia For Band" by Anne McGinty. with a trumpet solo by Karen Holmes. "A Thousand Hills Overture" by Claude T Smith, and . "Adventura" by James Swearingen. with a flute I solo 'by Amy Brown, a I baritone solo by Amanda I Errickson. and a clarinet solo by Cathy Wang. The choir, under the direction of John Snyder, sung "Ding Dong! Merrily • On High" by Ruth Artman, "Ukrainian Bell Carol" by L. Leontovich; "African Noel" by Aden Lewis, "What Child Is This?" a solo by Chennen Daily : and "Jingle-Bell Rock" with words and music by Joe Beal and Jim Boothe and a duet sung by Shannon Black and Stephanie Boyd. "JINGLE BELLS" by Carol Hall was sung by the choir with March, Waltz. Cha-Cha, Spiritual, Cowboy, Indian, and Boogie variations. ' Our Christmas Heritage,'' featuring "Good King Wenceslas." "O Christmas Tree," "Oh! How Joyful," "Pat-a Pan," "Silent Night," and "Jingle Bells", with narration by Kathy Spalding and Kelly West, was sung by the chorus and ensemble with student accompanist Lee Ann Mcllvaine. The Concert Band, under the direction of Sterling, performed "Little Drummer Boy" by James D. Ployhar, "Praises" by W. Francis McBeth, "Albemarle" by Jay Chattaway, and "Brighter Side of Christmas" by Len Goldstyne to conclude the program, which was performed before a capacity crowd. THREE MIDDLE Township High School students were selected through competitive audition at Washington Township High School Dec. 6 to perform in the All South Jersey Symphonic Band. Christine Heck, a sophomore, finished sixth out of 14 on the baritone horn with a score of 149 She will sit fourth chair in the Symphonic Band. Gregg Johnson, a sophomore, finished sixth out of 17 on the tuba with a score of 143. This is the second time that he has been selected, working it last year as a freshman. He will also sit fourth chair in the Symphonic Band Derek Shute. a senior, finished seventh out of 47 on the trumpet with a score of 127 He will sit first chair in the Symphonic Band The MTHS Key Club has had a very successful season with its popcorn sales due to the efforts of Donna Buonanni. the traditional version of "Jingle Bells." "Good King Wenceslas," and "Jolly Old St. Nicholas". "Let There Be Peace on Earth" was sung in a duet by Rosalyn Cade and Maya Wise. A piano solo, "Winter Wonderland", was performed by Jane Wunder. The Fifth Grade Choir under the direction of Lois Likens with accompanist Penny Powders sung "Christmas Love", "Medley Christmas", "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day", and "Do You Hear What I Hear?" HEATHER CHARR. Amy Dunbar, Christine Dunn. Tina Giannini. Chrisanna Gibboni, William Huime, Christine Keever, Stephen Kosloside. Glenn Messick and Georgeanne Oliver were in a special group who performed. "A Holly Jolly Christmas" and "We Wish - You a Merry Christmas". "O Little Town of Bethlehem" was sung in a duet by Laurieanne Caguiat and Deanna Zeiss. Jacqueline Hills performed "Virgin's Lullaby" as a solo. Performing in a duet, Nicole Duca and Christine Ferruggio sang the theme from "Ice Castles". "Bless the Beasts and the Children" was sung in a solo by Justina Linthicum. Anthony Matthews performed "The Skater's Waltz" in a drum solo. "A SUITE OF Carols" consisting of "The Conventry Carol", "Deck the Halls", and "Silent Night" were performed with arrangements by John Kinyon. "Three Christmas Carols": "Away in the Manger," "We Three Kings", and "Adeste Fideles" were also performed with arrangements by Kinyon. The Advanced Band and Fifth Grade Choir performed "Joy to the World" with arrangements by Kinyon as the "Grande Finale." The Middle Township High School Marching Band, with director Richard P. Ludwig, traveled to Califronia Dec. 19. They arrived in Los Angeles on two separate flights that day and visited Knott's Berry Farm and Amusement Park in Buena Park, where they enjoyed riding the amusements and eating full course dinners. Also on the itinerary were an evening tour of Hollywood and visits to the Wild Animal Park, the San Diego Zoo, and Sea World. The MTHS Band performed in the San Diego Christmas Parade and Field Competition, and also during the half-time festivities at the San Diego Holiday Bowl Game Dec. 22. GEORGIANA BEDDOW was the announcer of the Elementary School 1 Christmas Concert in the auditorium of Elementary School 3 Dec. 18. Selections performed by the Music Enrichment Students included "Sing Noel", "Let the Candles Glow", and "Calypso

Allelu". The students performing included Beddow, Kim Berardi. Julia Bryan. Heather Cade, Joanna Cook, Thea Crawley. J.R. Golley, Nicole Gregory. Kelly Huntley. Jennifer Isaksen. Christoper Jones. Terri Kraemer. Dana Mitchell, Brian Moore. Marybeth Newdeck. Jay Otton, Allan Richardson. Nicole Schubert. Rebecca Sherba, Nichole Stansbury, Alonza Thompson, Theodore Tinklepaugh, Eric Whitehead, Jennie Williams. Michael Williamson, and Christopher Winter. Penny Powders was the accompanist. THE PLAY. "Santa, The Mechanic Fanatic" was sung and performed during the remainder of the concert. The musical numbers performed included "Robot Machines", "I'll Never Have To Pa^ a Dime For Overtime'', "Progress", "There Isn't A Thing I Wouldn't Do", "Once Upon A Time", "Car Wash Blues", "If", and the "Finale". The cast of characters included Eric Whitehead as Santa: Ely Mahon as Mr. Smith; Emily Rosenberg as Miss Jones; Timothy Urie, Kim Berardi. Kelly Huntley. Rebecca Sherba. Kristin Kennedy. Molly Doherty, Jennifer MacLeod J.R. Golley, Georgiana Beddow, Joanna Cook, Jeannie Williams and Michael Williamson as Elves Numbers One through 12. Jason Trego, Kristin Dooley, Heather Bulifant, Jack Lin, and Social Mehta as Robot Numbers One through Five. Walter Hill as the Repairman: Christopher Jones as the Car-Wash Customer; Sholto Rasmussen, drums; and Lee Ann Mclllvaine, bass. The 77 other elves in the Christmas musical were played by students in Christine Collett's, Susan Douglass', Ella Geiger's, Mildred Quay's and Sharon Trego's third grade classes. Elizabeth Churchill and Thelma Pedrick provided the props and costumes, and Grace Williams did the program.

Margaret Campbell, the school's music teacher, coordinated the program. We send our congratulations to Tony and Jeanne DeVico of Court House on the birth of their daughter Margaret Mary Nov. 23 at the Bridgeton Hospital. She weighed 6 pounds 71* ounces at birth. AS THE READING, writing, and mathematics test results in the High School Proficiency Testing are returned from the State, school districts become very busy in what is commonly called "the interpretation process". This process is vital because starting with the current ninth grade class, all students must pass the test in order to graduate. First to arrive are individual student print-outs. They are delivered in the spring and are used to determine appropriate program placement based upon indicated strengths and weaknesses. In the fall, the school district receives additional summaries which provide information related to course track, sending district, and total population. Administrators and teachers analyze such results in an effort to improve the instructional process and curriculum content on all grade levels. PARTICIPANTS in a recent math interpretation meeting in the Middle Township School District included Anthony Ferrante, assistant superintendent; MTHS Principal John McVey; Middle School Principal Edmund Webb: Avalon School Principal Ronald Bonner: Dennis Township School Principal Raymond Dolton; and Compensatory Education Supervisor Edith Ludlam. The representative teachers at this meeting included Christine Bailey, Patricia Blood, Susan Bahr, Vincent Changlin, Christine Collett. Maryann Hampton. Robert Heidorn, and Linda Jones.
