Electric Bills Get A Slash PLEASANTVILLE - The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU) has approved Atlantic Electric's request for a $44 million decrease in its energy adjustments for service rendered on and after Jan. 1. The reduced energy adjustment will decrease residential customer bills from 4.2 percent to 7.7 percent according to how much electricity is used. As a result of this decrease, the energy adjustment credit for residential customers will change from a negative 0.9748 cents per kilowatt-hour to a negative 1.5819 cents per kilowatt-hour. THE UTILITY still has a net $91,850 million rate increase request pending before the BPU. The company also has appealed to the New Jersey Supreme Court the BPU's denial of a $25 million rate increase which had been requested in 1983 When the energy adjustment decrease go fes into effect today. Jan. 1. a monthly residential bill for 500 kilowatt-hours will decrease from $57.49 to $54.45. or 5.3 percent. Residential customers who use 3,000 kilowatthours per month in the winter will pay $218.39 instead of $236.60 — a decrease of 7.7 percent. Summer rates for customers who use 1500 kilowatt-hours monthly will drop from $175.36 to $166.25. or 5.2 percent. THE DECREASE is about $7 million more than the company's original requested reduction of $37.0 million filed Sept. 26. 1985. for two main reasons: First. Atlantic Electric's underrecovered balance of energy costs at December 31. 1985 is now estimated to be less than earlier estimates; and second, fuel cost projections for 1986 are now estimated to be lower than the Sept. 26. 1985 •* estimates. i
