Gas Firm's Rates Go Down, Up

FOLSOM - The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU) has approved a $2.6 million decrease in South Jersey Gas Company's Raw Materials Adjustment ( RMA > charge, as well as a SI. 6 million increase in base tariff rates. According to William F.

Ryan, president of South Jersey Gas. the $2.6 million reduction in the RMA charge is a result of the anticipated lower costs from the company's principal supplier. Transcontinental Gas Pipe Line Corp. (Transco), in 1986. "South Jersey Gas Company is pleased to announce an RMA decrease for the second consecutive year. We continue to support the measures taken by Transco to reduce the cost of gas it purchases from producers. We will continue to advocate the position of minimizing the cost of gas for consumers while maintaining a secure longterm supply of natural gas," stated Rvan. Ryan stated. The net result of today's ruling reflects the continued downward trend in gas prices which continues to make natural gas the most economical fuel for today's energy needs."
