I We cannot afford Rachel Sloan as mayor any longer! I RACHEL SLOAN has approved every condominium development proposed and completed since July 1st 1983 and has just approvI ed a 44 Unit Condo Complex, the largest one in Avalon's history, I for a favored Realtor/Developer. Why would she do this for one of her supporters only? I RACHEL SLOAN'S Administration recently proposed an ordinance I for a sweetheart land deal to give one of her campaign committee ■ members, Mr. Gordon Smith, two borough-owned waterfront lots 1 for $2,500 payable to the borough at $250 a year for ten years with I no Tax or Interest. These lots are assessed at $25,000 on the I Borough Tax Book. Why would she do this one for her supporters I only and at a loss to the taxpayers? I RACHEL SLOAN spent more than $400,000 tor a Beach Revetment, I Contrary to her own beach consultants, environmental commisI sion, and borough officials: advice, net result: The State of New I Jersey threatens to withdraw SB million in Beach Restoration I Funds — another fiasco due to her fiscal mismangement. Sea Isle H City obtained 5Vz million in special Grant Beach Funds, Avalon I only received $800,000 of entitled insurance money. Why has I Rachel Sloan failed to persue this aid after two years in office. I RACHEL SLOAN'S Administration was fined $2,500 in 1985 by the I State D.E.P. lor not using the equipment we spent $1 million for in I 1983 I RACHEL SLOAN refuses io debate the issues, we can no longer af- ■ ford Rachel Sloan as Mayor. A is for Art and the library has something for artists, would-be artists, armchair art critics, art lovers, novices and professionals. Those who would • like to try a new technique or a beginner looking for "how to"j information would do well to begin browsing in the 741.26 area of the book shelves, where they will find information on pen and ink drawings, color theory, sketching with pencil and instructional materials. This area will also contain books on cartooning and animation technqiues 1 and manuals for the commercial artist on the production of posters, album and book covers and related projects. For inspiration and study this area also contains books on drawings and sketches of the master artist such as Piscasso. Matisse. Rem- 1 brandt and famous il- 1 lustrators such as Arthur Rackham, Norman Rockwell and W.C. Wyeth. FOR THOSE ready for painting techniques such as acrylics, watercolors and oil painting, how to infor- . mation can be found in the 750.4 area. This section will also yield books directed toward painting specific topics such as marine painting, portrait painting, landscape painting, and Painting the Human Figure. Works which analyse famous paintings or artists, such as 20 Oil Painters and How They I Work, are helpful to all artists for information on
techniques, new ideas and inspiration and a look into the mind of the creative person. Some of the favorite types of art materials are those which concentrate on a particular artist and contain color reproductions of his or her famous works. Some books of this type analyse paintings using different criteria such as the use of color, composition rules the artist followed or broke and often ha\te closeup sections of individual paintings. / THE LIBRARY has a collection representing almost every major artist: a small sampling of the artists found on our shelves include Homer. Eakins, Klee, Toulouse Lautrec, Picasso. Monet, Hooper, and fcousseau. Some books study and discuss various schools of painting such as experessionism, realism, cubism, impressionism and romanticism. Another popular way of packing art books that publishers use to give variety is to focus on a particular collection such as '| the Louvre, the Pushkin Museum collection, or the I Frick collection and many i of these are available at your local library waiting I to expand your mind, tempt you brush hand and widen your horizons. THE REFERENCE collection has numerous sources on art and artisans, but three are of particular interest to those talented local artists: (Ref 706.5) Artists Market — where to sell your advertising art. album covers, cartoons, graphic designs, . greeting cards, posters etc.; (Ref 706.5) National Directory of Shops/GallerI ies/Shows/Fairs where to [ exhibit and sell drawings, glasswork, weaving, photographs. sculpture, leatherwork, needlework, pottery, oil painting and watercolors; (Ref 702.5) Artist's I Manual, which answers these questions for artists — what do I need to know, how do I go about it, and what materials and equipment do I need? included are clear introductions to each medium which shovy the range of available equipment and demonstrrate a comprehensive range of techniques in each medium. . After your have browsed and borrowed our how-to art books and studied the masters, you might even offer to exhibit your art work at the county library! (ED.
