Two Records Set By State's S&Ls
NEW YORK - New Jersey member institutions achieved a record October and year-to-date high in mortgage activity, the
Federal Home Loan Bank of New York reported recently. Mortgage loans acquired by 141 New Jersey members rosfc to $1.3 billion in October; $1.1 billion was recorded in September. Loan volume was 78 percent higher than the $708 million reported in October, 1984. New Jersey member instituions accounted for 51 percent of the district loan volume of $2.5 billion. FIGURES FOR the 10 months ending Oct. 31, 1985 were $9.6 billion — up 22 percent from the record pace of $7.9 billion turned in during the same period in 1984. The continued decline in mortgage rates was a major factor for this high level of activity. Total assets grew by $338 million during October to reach $47.2 billion; a year earlier, assets totaled $42.9 billion. ON OCT. 31, total deposits of $39.8 billion were held by the New Jersey members — an inc
crease of $417 million from September. On Oct. 31,1984, total deposits of $36.3 billion were held. The Federal Home Loan Bank of New York is
responsible for federally chartered savings and loan associations and savings banks in New Jersey, New York, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Seniors Set Luncheon AVALON - The Avalon Senior Citizens Organization will celebrate the New Year with a luncheon meeting noon -Tuesday, Jan. 14, at the Avalon Community Hall, 30th and Avalon Avenues. Income Tax Help Offered Seniors
RIO GRANDE - Assistance for senior citizens in making out their income tax returns will again be available in Cape May County this year, with trained volunteers providing the help. Aid will be provided by the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) at the Social Services Building here during February and March 9-11:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. VITA services will also be available at North Wildwood City Hall by appointment only. Call 522-2030 for information or to make appointments.
