Pro-Life Groups Set D.C. March

Pro-life organizations are mobilizing for their 13th annual protest to the Supreme Court's decision to legalize abortions and will leave for Washington, D.C., next Wednesday, Jan. 22, to join thousands of other people in a nationwide "March For Life". "Buses will leave early in the morning and return in the evening," said Ken I Wagner, chairman of the I Cape May County Right to I Life group. "We'll be leav- I ing from all over the county I and will have as many I buses as it takes. "We're urging people to I make reservations early I and we'll schedule them I from the nearest departure I point when they call," he I declared. THE GROUP has also I urged churches in the coun- I ty to send representatives I to Washington. "This is their chance to I demonstrate their con- I cerns and feelings to Con- I gress," Wagner said. "We've been meeting I across from the White I House every year to protest I the Supreme Court's I 43-year-old decision to I allow abortion on demand I throughout the entire nine I months of pregnancy. I We're still fighting that I decision and we'll keep on I fighting it until it's I changed." Wagner said his or- I ganization is using a three- I pronged approach to the I problem: prayer, legis- I lation and education. MEMBERS OF the I group said they've com- I mitted their lives to the I fight against abortion. I "Many cities in the U.S. I now have more abortions I than live births," Wagner I said. "Atlantic City is one I of those places." "We estimate roughly I that there are 1,000 abor- I tions a year just in Cape I May County. There are I about 1.5 million a year in I the U.S." Wagner said those I figures don't include spon- I taneous abortions caused 1 by IUD's ' intra -uterine I devices ) and other forms of I contraception. "A lot of women aren't I even aware that some of I these devices do that." The group members said I there is a lot of work to be I done to raise the con- I science and consciousness 1 of man. "THOUSANDS OF un- I bom babies are dying in 1 the abortion mills but no- 1 body notices because it's 1 done behind closed doors — I it's not like killing infants I in the streets," Wagner i said. 1 Pro-life members feel 1 that although the issue is I vital, the media tends to 1 shy away from it because it I is so controversial. "We expect about 100,000 I people in Washington but I the media, if it reports the I event, plays it down," I Wagner said. "What really I annoys us is that some ■ animal featured in the zoo . I will get an entire segment I on television but the media I gives us a quick blurb — if I we're lucky." WAGNER SAID in addi- I tion to the March for Life, I the group will meet with I senators and congressmen. I "Our own congressman, I William Hughes, has a pro- I abortion record. We intend I to speak with him and I make some constructive I suggestions." The Right to Life |

organization also visits county schools with an educational program and welcomes the opportunity to be on the same program with people of different views. Most of the time, they say, children are never given insight into alternatives to abortion.

People interested in sign- t ing up for the Washington s trip or wanting more infor- t ma tion on the educational ii program should call Eva Feeley, 263-3535. "WE'RE ASKING for a < donation to cover the $600 c cost for each bus," Wagner c said. "If someone can't go s

would like to sponsor else, that would another way to be involved." "These unborn children can't protest. We, who are concerned about their deaths, must stand up and speak out for them."
