Six for nine is not a bad percentage for Cape girl's basketball success last week. The week's competition began and ended with fans on the edge of their seats, coaches sweating like players and referees making quick, unnnoticed exists as scoreboards

displayed 2, 5 and 8 point finals. Wildwood started it all off with a 55-53 tilt over Mainland, thanks to 17 for 26 shooting at the free throw line. Warrior Ann Turner put up 17 points and hauled down 16 rebounds in the win. Franni Barcas contributed 15 and Wendy Harkins added 12. At the defensive end of the court, Sharon Sittineri

' Still a tighter game for Middle was a 39-34 tilt over f rival Wildwood Catholic. It i was a head to head battle between top guns Bev Brant and Catholic's Kate Caruso. Grant's combination of jumpers and drives stunned the Crusaders, and she deposited 20 for the afternoon. Caruso wasn't exactly stopable either, but Panther defense held the Crusader star to 11 points. Catholic had a two point advantage in the third stanza, but it didn't last long due to a Grant six point explosion for a 30-26 Panther lead. THE FOURTH QUARTER began with a Betsy Gilbert three point play and a Grant layup to give Middle a nine point lead with seven minutes remaining. The Crusaders didn't fall easily because of tough Cheryl Libofsky. Libofsky struck back with two field 1 goals that gave Middle a final scare before Grant retaliated. 1 Grant hit the first half of 1 . a one and one free throw and made the final deposit i with five seconds remaining for a Panther victory.
