Charles G. Ryder, 74, of Middle Township, Jan. 14. A retired painter, he spent most of his lifetime in this area. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church of Mayville. Margaret Schellenger, 86, of Cape May, Jan. 17. A 50-year resident, she taught art in the local school system. She was a member of the Seaville Friends Meeting, the Cape May Women's Bridge Gub and the' New Jersey Education Association. She was born in Kennett Square. Pa Thomas G. Sloan. 71, Avalon emergency management director and husband of Mayor Rachel Sloan, Jan 14. A retired chemical engineer for the Rohm Haas Corp. of Philadelphia, he was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was a local resident for 12 years. Vespucci N. Staf fieri, 69, of Villas, Jan. 13. A retired bottler for Schmidt's Brewery of Philadelphia, he 'belonged to the Villas Fishing Club. He was a local resident for seven years. Robert L. Stebbins, 79, of Rio Grande, where he once
served as deacon. He belonged to Arbutus Lodge No. 170, Free and Accepted Masons, of Cape May Court House for half a century. R. Cordelia Stevens, 73, formerly of L»o wer Township, Jan. 17. She taught in the Lower Township elementary school system and later served as a state helping teacher for Cape May County. She was a 55-year resident of Lower Township before moving to Big Pine Key. Fla. in 1968. Ralph Vezin, 79, of Avalon. Jan. 14. Born in Gardone Riviera, Italy, he formerly lived in Philadelphia and Montrose, Pa. before moving her two years ago. He was a mechanical engineer for the Baldwin Locomotive Co. of Philadelphia where he designed locomotives. Joseph A. Ward. 79, of West Cape May, Jan. 18. A retired insurance agent for Prudential in Philadelphia, he was a World War II Army veteran. A health care advocate in Cape May County, he was a member of the Friends of Burdette. Tony L. Walters, 23, of Ocean City, Jan. 17 from auto injuries. Born in Atlanta, he was a local resident for three years. He worked as a mechanic. Walter A. Weigand, 81, of Wildwood Crest, Jan. 14. A retired roofing sales rtian employed by the Karris Roofing Co. of Philadelphia, he made his home in this area for the past 18 years.
