Money Markets Holding At 7 Percent Interest
By JOSEPH R. ZELN'IK Money market savings accounts interest rates here stayed basically right where they were a month ago at the county's 15 financial institutions. A half dozen S&Ls are paying 7 percent interest and Collective Federal still mysteriously offers 7:1 for its money market passbook account. All the rest are paying 6-something. yes, these are the same folks charging* minimum of 11.5 for a home mortgage. The 91 -day U.S. Treasury Bill which used to be the index that determined these rates, climbed a bit from 7.17 percent this time last month to 7.23 percent. But only one county financial institution offered higher rates than last month: Heritage Bank inched its rate to 6.82 from the previous 6.6. THE MONEY MARKET ACCOUNTS still \Vj percent better than plain old passbooks, require a minimum
balance of $1,000 or $2,500, depending on the institution, permit six transaction (three checks and three deposits) a month, a change rates weekly. Thousands of countians have millions of dollars in the accounts. Here's a list, in alphabetical order, of the financial institutions and the money market and Super Now interest rates they were paying last week. Super Now is like the money market, but permits unlimited transac- . tions and thus pays less interest in most cases. Anchor Savings & Loan, 6.65, 5.65. Cape May County Savings & Loan, 7, 6.5.
