Middle Township
The first round of examination in this year's New Jersey Science League Competition was administered at Middle Township High School Jan. 9. The high schools in our district who sent their top science students to take the exams were Middle Township, Lower Cape May Regional, and Miliviile. THE MTHS students participating in this year's Science League Competition are: Donna Buonanni, Avi Prabhakar, Tina Skinner and George Hsieh in Biology I. Cora lludanich. Deb Williams. Michelle Clayton, and Chris Cinowski in Biology II. Christine Heck, Margaret Hsieh. Reynold Wang, and Robert Murray in Chemistry I. Robert Hentges, Rob Dean. John Francis and Bill Lloyd in Physics. Three more examinations will be given in this year's competition. They will be the second Thursday of February. March, and April. Joseph Steady is the chairperson of the MTHS science department. We wish our friend Sam Brewer a belated "Happy Birthday! " He is the MTHS Key Club advisor. A COMPUTER Club open to all sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students at the Middle School is being organized by its advisor. Steve DeStefano. The club, which will meet after school one day a week, will emphasize Simple Word Processing and Data Base Management Programs. A MEN'S RACQUET BAI.I. Tournament sponsored by the Middle Township Recreation Depart ment will be held at Muscle World. Court House. Feb. I and 2. Trophies will be awarded to the top three in the "top level" and "B level" groups. Registration is required. For more information call Gregg Arnold at 465-3520. FOUR STUDENTS from
the Middle Township Schools will be competing in the U.S. Amateur Chess Championship in Somerset, Feb. 14 to 17. Students CaUiy Wang and Amy Brown ranked nationally in the top 50 in their age category two years ago when they were in sixth grade. The Middle team finished in a first place tie in its category last year. Steve DeStefano from the Middle School and Mike Brown from Elementary School 3 are the chess team's advisors. We wish Bob Mossbrooks of Court House a belated "Happy Birthday!" THE ANNUAL Country • and Western Dance sponsored by the Middle Township Recreation Department will be held at the Green Creek Fire Hall 8 p.m. Feb. 8. Music will be provided by the Kentucky Dave Band. A chili contest will be held. For more information and tickets call < regg Arnold at 465-3520. MTHS senior John Francis and junior Rob Dean have been selected for the Bausch and Lomb Medal for being the top science students in their respective grades. They will each be eligible to compete for a scholarship at the University of Rochester. The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 198 will sponsor an "all you can eat" pancake breakfast 8 a.m. to noon Feb. 9. Included are sausage, juice, and coffee. For reservations call 465-5255 or 465-5579. MTHS senior Michelle Clayton has received a $100 award for research from the New Jersey Academy of Science. She will be invited to present her research project before the academy in May. bourne as its representative. has become a member of the Middle Township Chamber of Commerce. THE NEW JERSEY Financial Aid Form, commonly referred to as the "FAF", is used by all students, whether they intend to go to Cape May County Vocation-al-Technical School or Harvard University. The "FAF" is available in the MTHS Guidance Office. Students who plan to continue their education after high school are urged to stop by the office and pick one up. To make an appointment, call the Guidance Office between 7:45 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. at 465-9411, ext. 310. The New Jersey Association of Financial Aid Administrators Awareness Program is providing professionals to answer questions by calling 1-800-932-3213 toll free any weeknight 7 to 9 un til Jan. 31. The MTHS Key Club is sponsoring a pancake breakfast in the MTHS cafeteria 7 to 11 a.m. Saturday. Tickets will be available at the door. Lennea Plant of Rio Grande was reappointed to a two-year term as a member of the County Election Board in Court House. She is also honorary vicechairlady of the County Republican Executive Committee. The Cape May Court House Kiwanis Club is looking for new members. For information contact Vincent Changlin at 390-3786. Jacqueline Stites, a fifth grade teacher at Elementary School 3. and Mildred Quay, a third grade teacher at Elementary School 1. were among the educators from schools in Middle Township and other county communities>who attended the "Cape May County Outreach" educational workshops.
