| Club Helps Rebuild | Dunes at Higbee
CAPE MAY - Members I of the New Jersey Beach ! Buggy Association turned ! out Jan. 18 to help preserve • the sand dunes at Higbee J Beach. Twenty-five members | assisted Endangered and j Nongame Species Program j staff in erecting 500 feet of j snow fence to help protect I and rebuild the dunes. Higbee Beach is a I 600-acre Wildlife Managej ment Area owned by the J state and managed by the Department of Enj vironmental Protection. Division of Fish. Game & Wildlife's Endangered and I Nongame Species Program. THE HIGBEE Beach j WMA includes one and onehalf miles of beach with an j extensive natural dune J system along lower Delaware Bay. Erosion by wind and human use damages the | fragile natural dune ' system, one of the few remaining in the state. Snow
fence slows the strong beachfront winds and causes sand to build up around it. enhancing and strengthening the dune ALL MANAGEMENT and research on Higbee Beach is funded by the Endangered and Nongame Species Program, supported solely by the state income tax check-off. Law enforcement for the area is provided by the Division of Fish. Game & Wildlife Bureau of Law Enforcement. Higbee Beach provides food, cover and a stop-over to thousands of birds on migration, including bald eagles, peregrine falcons and countless songbirds. Meeting Off RIO GRANDE - The February 11th meeting of the Cape May County Ostomy Association has been cancelled. The next meeting will be March 11.
