Dry Food Handout Slated Feb. 10-21

RIO GRANDE - Cape Human Resources, Inc.. the Cape May County Lead Agency for distributing federal surplus food, will conduct a distribution of dry commodities J (rice, corn meal, powdered milk). Feb. 10 through 21. to individuals and families who qualify. The county Welfare Board will cooperate in the distribution According to Bernice H. Gordon, executive director of Cape Human Resources, Inc. and coordinator of commodity distribution in the county, individuals and families on: public assistance; food stamps; Supplemental Security Income(SSI); general assistance: Women, Infants. and Children) WIC); and Medicaid are automatically eligible for dry commodities. ONLY i)\l§ person per household may apply. Proof of program I D. must be presented at cheese distribution location. Through a ruling by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the State of New Jersey was compelled to drop PA A (Pharmaceutical Assistance Program for the Aged) as an automatic eligibility category for commodities. Many PAA card recipients, however, are still eligible for commodities distributions. A single senior may have an annual income of up to $9,713; a couple may have an annual income of $13,043. ELIGIBLE SENIORS will need to bring either proof of income or participation in one of the above-mentioned programs or be prepared to sign a self-certification form attesting to their incomes. Rio Grande Firemen Kept Busy RIO GRANDE - The Rio Grande Volunteer Fire Co., First District 2. Middle Township, was kept on the go in 1985, responding to 104 fire calls and piling up 6,621 volunteer main hours. 1,471 of these at fires. That was revealed in the just released annual report, which revealed that the firefighters did an effective job of holding down fire losses. Of $853,542 total property involved. the total loss was $39,858, and of $401 .000 contents. the loss was $23,090. The firemen handled five dwelling fires, two commercial building fires, seven mobile home fires, and 14 vehicle blazes. Grass, brush, and woods fires brought the firemen out 16 times, and trash fires nine times. The company responded to eight auto accidents and 10 calls for the Jaws of Life. There were eight false and board alarms. Assists were furnished to the Erma company three times and to Wildwood once. 1st Woman On Board NORTH WILDWOOD - Mayor Lewis G. Vinci has announced the appointment of Mary (Betsy) Tomlinson to the resort's Zoning Board of Adjustment He said this marks the first time in memory that a woman has been asked to serve on the Zoning Board. Vinci said Tomlinson has a resident of North Wildwood for 29 years. She and her husband. Speaker at the Cape May Women's Republican Club luncheon meeting was Page Ruber, a registered nurse with the Holy Redeemer Nursing Agency, who spoke on the importance of keeping Cape May a free zone on nuclear waste. She is trying to get the freeholders to pass an ordance to this effect, and urges anyone wanting to help to call her at home. 884-2076, or at work, 465-2082. On Jan. 9 they became the proud great-great-grandparents of a baby boy born to their greatgranddaughter. Valerie and husband. Ed. Baby weighed 6 pounds fifteen ounces and is called Edward Francis Staley Jr. Mr. and Mrs. Laudenslager are to be congratulated twice, for they will be celebrating 62 years of marriage come November. Signups At St. Ann WILDWOOD - Registra tion for 1986-87 Pre-First Class will be held 9-11 a.m. and 1-2 p.m. Monday and Tuesday. Feb. 10 and 11, in St. Ann School office. Magnolia and New Jersey Avenues. Children who will be 5 years old by Oct. 1 this year are eligible. Parents are asked to bring children's baptismal and health records. Anyone wishing to enroll a student for grades one to eight may also apply at this time. Students currently enrolled at St. Ann need not register again now. In the 1986-87 school year, St. Ann Pre-First class will be full-day. It will run 8:15 a.m. -2:25 p.m. with snack, lunch, and rest periods.
