IT'S TIME to think hearts and flowers now that Valentine's Day is a little more than a week away. We're seeing lots of valentines in the windows of stores and homes, also heart-shaped wreaths on the doors of houses here and there. We like to celebrate everything and anything, and we always look forward to celebrating St. Valentine's Day each year. Schoolchildren always get to put their artistic talents to work making valentines for friend and foe alike. February also brings with it presidential birthday celebrations and while the dates set aside to remember Lincoln and Washington may be a little confusing nowadays, the same old stories about these two presidents seem to repeat year after year. EVERY SCHOOL CHILD who ever complained about having to do homework has had to hear how Abraham Lincoin did his by the fireside. And how about the stories of how George Washington chopped down the cherry tree. i "While February can test one's patience with winter, i isn't it good to know that we're midway in the course of I { winter, and soon winter will be behind us. Each passing day is edging us closer to springtime. It'll be an early Easter and therefore an early Ash Wednesday. Ash Wednesday is just a week away. While winter still has the bite, you'll want to enjoy these frosty days and evenings with a good meal in a good place. Here are several good places we'd like to recommend. VICTORIA'S TABLE. The romantic atmosphere of Victoria's Table in the Golden Eagle Inn keeps you upbeat during the dinner, dining and cocktail hours Sunday thru Thursday. Located on the ocean front at Philadelphia Avenue. Cape May. there's a world of good eating and pleasurable entertainment inside this famous hostelry. The menu includes excellent fish and seafood selections as well as honey dipped fried chicken, filet mignon and roast turkey with herb stuffing. Open also lor breakfast daily from 7 a.m. to noon, and for lunch from noon to 3 p.m.. you'll get special attention from the very nice staff. Music and dancing fills the night Friday and Saturday from 9 p.m. on. THE FLANDERS. There just aren't that many places anymore that have the atmosphere and the service that is found during brunch at The Flanders Hotel. 11th and the Boardwalk in Ocean City. The Flanders takes you back to another era, and the marvelous Sunday brunch is an occasion when time honored fresh foods and pastries are especially prepared for this weekly occasion. Enjoy eggs, any style, hot cakes, bacon, sausage, roast beef, fruit, salad bar, assorted crepes, sparkling cider and an extensive dessert table. SCRENC'I'S. The Screnci family are masters of hospitality and fine cooking, and any visit to this excellent restaurant will always make you feel like you are visiting in a private home. Located at 6208 Landis Avenue, fcea Isle City. Screnci's large menu includes choices for ali tastes. The Marinara . . specials include fettucini, flounder or scrod. sauteed ' shrimp, sauteed veal or sirloin steak. The pastas serve your appetite well, and include lingumi or spaghetti and seafood, stuffed shells with meatballs, lasagne, ravioli and meatballs or sausage, manicotti and braciola, fettuccine with spinach (one of our favorites), and gnochi in cream sauce or with meatballs or sausage. Desserts are always excellent. We like to order the flambe occasionally, but we also enjoy the freshly made cheese cake, mint parfait. and yummy rice pudding.
