SJI Sets Earnings Record FOLSOM - South Jersey Industries, Inc. (SJI), a diversified natural gas distribution and natural resources development holding company, had record consolidated earnings applicable to common stock for 1985, according to I William F. Ryan, president and chief executive officer. Consolidated earnings applicable to common stock for the 12 months ended Dec. 31. amounted to approximately $9.6 million or $2.60 per common share based on the 3,680.493 average shares outstanding. THIS REPRESENTS an approximate five percent increase over 1984 consolidated earnings of approximately $9.1 million, or $2.87 per common share. Average shares outstanding increased over the previous year as the result of new shares issued through a common equity offering in 1984 and to new shares issued through the company's Dividend Reinvestment and Stock Purchase Plan. CONSOLIDAT E I) operating revenues applicable to continuing operations in 1985 totaled approximately $258.2 million, compared to 1984 consolidated operating revenues from continuing operations of $275.6 million. The decrease in revenues is attributed mainly to the 15 percent warmer than normal temperatures in 1985. which resulted in a "1 reduction of firm sales of natural gas by South Jersey Gas Co.. SJI's natural gas distribution subsidiary.
