In their continuing efforts to create a more efficient sewage treatment plant, the 1 city fathers in North Wild- I wood have proclaimed, 1 February as "cap your | sewer vent" month. TTiose • residents who fail to abide by the new ordinance will be invited to participate in festivities in March, proclaimed "Pay your $500 fine month". One of the most serious problems we face all along Five Mile Beach is water intrusion. That's when rain water, pool spill-over, and high tide water seep into the existing sewer lines This water unfortunately travels to the sewage treatment plant, where it is treated with the usual waste water. This over-taxes the system and causes severe problems. Intrusion was one of the significant factors this
past summer when we were forced to close our waters (O.K. Ed?). BY REQUIRING all residents to cap their sewage vents, it is anticipated that a considerable amount of rain water will be prevented from entering the municipal sewage lines. This measure, in conjunction with the repairs being made to the treatment plant, should provide the buffer necessary for the system to function properly until the regional plant is completed and in line in 1388. That's good news. The necessary vents are relatively inexpensive and
may be purchased at any plumbing store. Should you have any questions, you are I invited to contact City Hall. It was interesting to note the report of this ordinance | as printed in last week's j issue. I was briefly scanning ; the article when I noticed that the City of North Wildwood had authorized a $1 \ billion dollar bond or- • dinance to improve the ex- _ isting sewage treatment , system. ; ONE BILLION DOLLARS! Fortunately. I don't ' pay my taxes in North 1 Wildwood, and fortunately those who do have a sense of . humor add can appreciate an occasional typographical error. Can you imagine the jump in taxes? I JUST HEARD that Tom Poponak won the Ford | dealership grand prize for sales again this year. Last | year. Poponak won a trip to I the Super Bowl in Califor- | nia. and his wife. Carta, was treated to a marathon walk through Fisherman's | Wharf This year, the Poponaks were awarded a trip to NewOrleans for the 1986 Super Bowl. I'll bet you, as hard as Tom tried, he couldn't get Carla to take a "stroll" along Bourbon Street Congratulations to Poponak on another very successful year with Kindle Ford & Dodge & Lincoln. & Mercury ! ! ! In fairness to the "other half" of the Wildwood Auto Mall. I just learned that Milt Naglr is back at Burke Motors. For many years. Milt was a fixture in the showroom and it's good to | see him back. Best of luck • • • I JUST RECEIVED a note from Lena Versaggi. | publicity chairperson for the Hereford Lighthouse Res- | toration Committee. I've mentioned this exciting project before and I'm pleased to have the opportunity to do it again The committee is compiling a very special cookbook featuring those "secret" recipes used by Islanders i| All accepted recipes will be printed in the forthcoming |j volume and those submitting recipes will find their $ names alongside their submission § Already the group has received a note of distinction It has collected the & longest list of contact numbers on record : 522-4234 OR 729-OZ76 OR 522-267(1 OR 522-5751 OR 522-4760 You are asked to call after noon, jf any day of the week IT HAS BEEN reported that Dr Jung Sung Wang has recently purchased the Casa Novel Motel in Wild wood Crest Dr Wang is a pediatrician with his practice in Court House With the sale of the Casa § Nova, the spring surge of business settlements seems to be underway Business owners are always hesitant to sell an Island property during the season, and buyers are always reluctant to purchase in the dead of 3 winter. ■ The two opposing sides of the settlement table try to find some happy middle ground for the settlement date Historically, once the first large sale is consummated there is a flurry of ac-
tivity. A true harbinger of an early spring. This year, the Casa Nova marks the first million dollar sale of the year and already rumors of several more abound. One large transaction making the rounds involves a large parcel of Diamond Beach property being "eyed" by a prominent Five Mile Beach family. It's too early to reveal the property and the family, but once settlement is made I'll let you know.
