The main feature in i hoops action last week was St. Joe's capture of first ! place. ! By downing Middle Township 74-59, the Wildcats recorded their 10th straight win and moved to one and a half games ahead of second place St. Augustine. A 42-42 tie was changed to a 44-42 St. Joe lead when Wildcat Matt Alessi made a deposit with three seconds remaining in the third. With 6:10 left in the game. St. Joe opened it up to 51-46. but the Panthers didn't quit. Maurice Hubbard and Eddie Bryan shot Middle up to a 51-50 difference. ST. JOE gave the Panthers another blow with two buckets and two free throws Middle had no punches left as the Wildcats took it from there Vince Mallet canned 20 points and Dave Calloway hit for 16 for St. Joe. Maurice Hubbard led Middle with 14 after a scoreless first half. Dion Coley netted 12. and freshman Dexter Parker pulled down 12 boards and accounted for 10 points for the winners. The Panters did pull one off last week as they made a swift comeback to overcome Wildwood Catholic 46-41 An U-point deficit after the first quarter made it look like it was over for the Panters. but Doin Coley didn't think so. COLEY SCORED a game high 26 points including an eight point second quarter. Coley netted nine in the third period boosting the Panther lead to 34-29.
