The CARPET r* f ROIANGE L + By BOB CONAWAY THE ABC's OF CARPET You've decided to purchase new carpet for your home, but you're a little confused about some of the terms salespeople use when discussing the carpeting options which may be right for you. We've prepared a "pocket dictionary" of carpeting terms which you can clip out, carry with you and refer to when you are ready to make your selection. Body. The compact firm or full feel of a fabric. Broadloom. A dated term originally used to denote carpet produced in widths wider than six feet At one time it was used to connote "high quality." Carpet Fabric for soft floor covering especially one used for the entire floor area, and fastened to it Chenille. The term is derived from the French word meaning "caterpillar". The strips of chenille fur obtained when the chenille blanket is cut lengthwise and used as warp yams in the weaving of chenille rugs. Cut pile. A carpet the file of which is composed of cut ends of yam. Fiber. A generic term for various types of natural or man-made types of matter which form basic elements of textile fabrics. Fluffing or shedding. Appearance on the carpet surface of light fiber fragments which are not bound in the carpet Generally associated with newly installed carpet Jute. A fibrous skin forming the inner bark of an Asiatic herb. Shredded and spun, it forms an inexpensive but strong and durable yam used in carpet backing to add strength and stiffness. Looped pile is composed of looped or uncut yams. Pile. The upright tufts of a carpet cut or looped, which form the wearing surface of a carpet or rug. Shading. Four Named Assistants By Wawa Four Cape May County people who had completed the chain's training program have been named as assistant store managers at Wawa outlets in the area. v Jim McBride is assistant manager of Wawa's in Stone Harbor. Another named as an assistant store manager is Claire M. Gray. Assigned as assistant manager of Wawa's store in Villas was Terrie James, who had worked part-time for Wawa since 1984 Robert Girard, a 1980 graduate of Lower Cape May Regional High School, has also been named as an assistant store manager for the New Jersey area
