Members of Keeping in Touch have reserved Stone Harbor Fire Hall for Thursday, April 24, for a dessertbridge party. Desserts will be catered by members themselves with tea sandwiches also being supplied for those who avoid sweets. Hours will be noon 'til 3 p.m. This daffodil-decora-ted event has become an annual harbinger of warmer weather* I
Make reservations by calling Sara Brady at 368-2409 or Marcelle deLaurentis at 368-3286 — I they're co-chairing the affair. Ruthie Blair is in charge of prizes. TERESA MARTIN S terl rific little restaurant at 330 96th St. has been sold! This i time it's no rumor, but fact, r Former owner LarryBoy Ian told us "They got
me at the right time; it's February and I'm a little tired." When we mourned its loss. Larry hastened to reassure us: It's been bought by a group of successful restauranteurs in Bridgeton headed by Basil Beck and will open in March. They'll retain the present staff. "I'm the only change." Sam Garrison will run the show with Larry staying on "to lend a hand in the transition". New manager. Garrison will rent an apartment in Stone Harbor for the present. About his own plans. Larry says "Basically, I'm looking for something bigger". He's considering developing land he owns in Court House but hopes eventually to get back in the restaurant business. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Vorhees have announced the marriage of Mamie's daughter. Susan Murphy, to William Ballard. The wedding took place in Greenwich, Conn. Jan. 25. They'll be residing in Greenwich and they also have an apartment in New York City. Bill is an owner of New Castle partners advertising agency. Susan has oodles of friends in Stone Harbor, so they'll be spending time here in summer too. ASCO (AVALON'S Seniors) Let Freedom Ring luncheon was postponed from Feb. 11 to Feb. 13 because of the snowstorm.
The organization now boasts more than 360 members and its monthly catered luncheons at Comi m unity Hall are always packed because members may bring guests and it's i an easy and fun way to I entertain. i Fred Davis (an Abe Lincoln look-alike) recited the Gettysburg Address as part of the luncheon's > theme. Surrogate Robert i Hentges spoke briefly and patriotic music provided a big plus for this annual holiday event. Program Chairman Eileen Rafferty had a scare when it had to be i postponed and is grateful to Caviar and Caviar for mak- > ing the last-minute switch a i success. , • • • » PLAYED BRIDGE with some of Stone Harbor's point-system pontiffs last 1 week. Gene Fisher, who i .Tuns the duplicate tourneys s at the Fire Hall each Wednesday night, has real j class. We have never heard ! him even remonstrate, let alotae criticize a lesser i player. 5 During one hand his part- \ / ner Alice Daniels (she's r tops too) , made a defensive s bid at the one level and n Gene jumped to six no n trump. No big deal for him e though; he apologised for not bidding the grand slam which he made. S CARDS FROM Marcelle g (Mrs. Ray) deLaurentis d and Jessie (Mrs. Harry) 3 Strohmetz say that, for i. once, their flight to Key
Largo was uneventful. The gals arrived on Harry's 75th birthday and their friends down there threw a birthday-buffet-bash for 50 that night. The b-day cake was decorated with a pastry guitar. Herman and Marie Siri drove over from Bonita Springs to round out the orchestra and Jessie reports "the music-was great."
HAD DINNER wiUl Emma and Raymond Carboni of Avalon this week. Anyone who knows them also knows to fast for three days prior to digging into the homemade pasta. It's way-out wonderful and Emma sends us home with enough for two more nights. They were as full of news as we were with pasta. (Page 12 Please)
