Committee Asks Sewage Commission Its Plans

By GREGG LAWSON COURT HOUSE - Middle Township Committee has asked the township Sewage Commission to outline its plans for the district. That report, now being prepared by Commission Engineer Charles Kona. will determine whether the commission lives or dies. Committee promised that a decision would be made within two weeks after receiving the report. FOR THE PAST YEAR, committee has held a deci'a sion on whether to keep the > present commission or abolish it and create a IT aiyvnau u auu ucdic d

U township Municipal Utilities : 4 Authority (MUA). 1 "We need to see if you j I have the ability to do the ! f job," Committeeman t | James E. Alexis said. "And J I'm not trying to be confron \ tational or sarcastic. We i need to sit down and iron it * out and see what direction I you want to go in." l "We're looking for what's F best for the whole town- i ship." Mayor Michael J, " Voll said. "We just want to 7 know if you can handle it ■ and then work with us to do • it." I ALEXIS TOLD this newspaper last June that he expected a decision "by the end of July." In November. Voll conceded that the decision was postponed until after the November election Meanwhile, the commis- , sioners say. they have been 1 living month-to-month, postponing action needed to tie into the MUA Seven Mile Beach/Middlc Region sewage treatment plant, scheduled to be completed in June 1987. i The five-member com- | mission (which has one vacancy created by the resignation of Mike Mills) serves 425 customers in the j Court House area. •WE NEED TO KNOW whether we'll be here six months from now. or whether an MUA will be created." Solicitor Carmen Alvarez told the committee. "We can't sign a contract with the (county) MUA until we know. We need a decision and we need one fast." "We're doing everything to prepare the system to last as long as its going to last." said Chairman Albert

Karaso. "Now we're concerned about the future. This is the third time we've been here in a year and we haven't gotten an answer." "Before we make a decision on where we want to go, we want to know how you're going to address the sewerage problem," Alexis said. "The bottom line is. we've got to analyze the most effective way to do it," Voll added. COMMITTEE SOUGHT to find whether the commission would extend its jurisdictional boundaries, a decision Karaso asaid hasn't been made. "My opinion is. I would

like to see township committee draw the boundary," said Committeeman Charles Leusner. "If you extend the boundaries to service the whole (Court House) region, we'll have to put in new collection systems," said Commissioner Phil Heck. "Right now we have a full collection system." "Why should 425 people burden the expense of a study of an expanded system, when it should include people in that expanded area?" he added later.
