Once a year, our fragile globe observes a World Day of Prayer. This year the day will be Friday. Nine local churches participate in this spiritual event on a rotating basis. St Ann's will be the 1986 host church. According to Helen Yecco. the service will be the same world-wide with this year's theme as "Choose Life". All area residents are invited to attend this service. which will be at St. Ann's Catholic Church. Magnolia and Atlantic Avenues. The service begins at 2 p.m. and will last an hour. TIIE LOCAL school board elections are shaping up. North Wildwood will field a slate of unopposed in cum bents, whereas. Wildwood will feature a slate of eight candidates seeking election to the nine-member board. If you are a Wildwood resident, you may wish to note that the Home and School Association will be hosting a meeting in which you can get acquainted with the seated board mefhbers as well as the eight candidates. Plan to attend! The date for the "Meet the School Board" meeting is March 12. Each_of the nine members on the current board have been asked to attend . as well as the challengers. The featured session of the evening will begin at approximately 8 p.mf SEVERAL EXCITING developments are occurring within the structure of the Greater Wildwood Little League. According to the board members, the organization is makings total commitment to the sport for the coming season The first change will be the merger of the Greater Wildwood T-Ball League into the organization. The TBall division will become of ficially sanctioned and a part of the Little League framework. The administrative board also made a commitment to upgrade and refurbish the two existing Island facilities used for baseball Thanks to MAB Paints and store manager Tom Wallace, all structures will receive a fresh coat of paint courtesv of MAB. The Senior League division of the organization has also been given the OK for expanded competition which will give the league the opportunity to compete against other area teams That puts a greater degree of spirit into the competition. The board is also discussing the possibility of creating a transitional league for 8-year-olds with exceptional talent These

boys and girls will form a two-team league and will graduate from the stationary tee to a pitched ball TAKE NOTE: If you have a child between 6 and 15. he is eligible to participate in one of the structured divisions and participation is welcome and encouraged by the organization. Registration dates will be Saturday. March 15. and again March 22. The site will be Crest Pier and the time 9 a.m.noon. Unlike previous years in which each division held separate registrations, this year registrations will be held concurrently. Don't miss it! IN A REBATED develop ment, I was speaking with Tom Higgins, a member of the Greater Wildwood Board of Directors, and he stated that the organization is going to schedule some valuable baseball seminars designed to encourage participant proficiency. John Sicca, owner of the painting firm that is repainting the El Coronado Motor Inn. has offered his talents to the organization while his Baltimore-based firm is in town. This isn't as odd as it sounds, as Sicca was a fine catcher in the Pittsburgh Pirate and Baltimore Oriole organizations. That's a nice gesture from an "out -oftowner." HOW ABOUT some West Wildwood news? A square dance to be exact I have been told that the West Wildwood Republican Club will host a square dance at Borough Hall 8:30-11:30 p.m. Saturday Refreshments are included in the admission price and the dance is open to all. For further information, call 729-7125 after 5:30 p.m I CAN'T mention one Republican event without mentioning another community's fund-raiser. The Wildwood Crest Republican Club still has a few seats left on its daytime bus trip to the Philadelphia Flower Show Tuesday. March II. Departing Crest Pier at 8 a m . the busload will return at 3 p m Call 522-6359 for last minute reservations. SINCERE WISHES for a speedy recovery are being extended to "Duke" Giuliano. who has recently undergone surgery in Philadelphia Never one to sit idly by, Duke has had a difficult time of late and our thoughts are with him as he recovers LAST W EEK I mentioned that our Island's publicists should make a concentrated effort to "tell the world" about the good we are doing

in correcting our beach/ water problems. The next day I was given an article from the Philadelphia Inquirer Feb. 6 which indicated the Philadelphia news stations could be giving the Jersey Shore . Fecal Coliform Counts on the Thursday/Friday news programs. IMAGINE! "Today's weather will be sunny and clear. Ocean temperature in Wildwood is 72 degree with a fecal coliform count of 198 ppm " I passed the article around and it was universally accepted with the same degree of doomsaying anger. Talk about upset! The business owners I was with seemed to feel that tourists will now watch the reports and opt for the cleanest beach They also feel that any report even distantly close to the max imum level will deter vacationers. PERHAPS A better plan would be to set a minimum standard before even mentioning the numbers. For instance. anything over 185 ppm would be given a number value, but anything under the minimum standard would simply be indicted as being "Great for bathing". In this manner the consumer is protected but spared the confusion of having to compare potential harzards broken down into colonies of bacteria per milliliter. After all. clean is clean and closed is closed. Concurrently, the state Department of Environmental Protection will also be issuing the statistics on a regular basis. Again, perhaps, a minimum standard should be adopted lest

we all become coliform crazy. If you think so give your legislator a call and have him/her exercise inf fluence. Support Group Meets Tues. COURT HOUSE - "Integration Back into the Community" will be the topic of David Strauss, Ph.D., at the meeting of the Cape/Atlantic Head Injury Support Group at Burdette Tomlin Hospital 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 11. Strauss is clinical director of ReMed Recovery Care Centers. Jenkintown. Pa. it AVALON > Appliance Center 967-4621 2345 DUNE DR. AVALON N I
