The Women's World Day of Prayer will be celebrated 7 :30 p.m. Friday at the First Methodist Church of Avalon, 34th and Dune Drive. Five island churches will be participating. Each year a different country develops the theme, this time Australia is responsible. Under the direction of the Rev. Robert Scott. Mary Basford of St. Mary's Episcopal. Mary Coffee of St. Paul's. Kathleen Doyle of Stella Maris, Reba Raeburn of First Methqdist (chairwoman of the event) and Dorothy Stump of Our Saviour have organized an hour of refreshment and friendship following the service. Women of each participating parish have been asked to donate three cakes to be served with coffee. Music will play a large part in the evening — the adult and children's choirs have been practicing intensively for the occasion. At a time when the world is rocking with unrest, it's reassuring to know an ecumenical group is working hard and praying to promote peace. Let's give them our full support.
