The Middle School Student Council will sponsor a "Bop-a-thon" 9 a.m. -6 p.m. April 19 to benefit the Cape May County Unit of the American Cancer Society. A "Bop-a-thon" is a 12-hour dance-a-thon in which the participants will "bop until they drop". The school has sponsored similar events over the past 10 years in which they collected over $20,000 for the Cancer Society. However, this year it will be open to participants from other junior high schools. PARTICIPATING students will be responsible for seeking pledges for each hour they dance, dancing the day of the event, and collecting their pledge money. The school will supply dinner, snacks, and drinks for all dancers. However, participants must provide their own lunch. Prizes will be awarded for the top three money collectors. Hourly prizes will also be awarded during special dances Students will be encouraged to participate as individualsor in groups, not only as couples. Student Council Historian Alicia Parker and its vice president. Paige Springer, are the coordinators of the event, which is open to sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students. We wish Sandy Ixxhten of Burleigh a very "Happy Birthday"! John W. Hand. Calvin L. Back. Benton G. Weimer. and Gregory C. Bastard will be running for the three seats in the Middle Township School Board Election April 15. The candidates for three-year terms all reside in Court House. Hand, Back, and Weimer are incumbents. A BLACK History Program in honor of Black History- Month was performed by the Black Heritage Cultural Members and the NAACP Youth Group at the Martin Luther King Jr. Center in Whitesboro Feb. 28. Black Heritage supervisor and teacher Ernestine R. Brown and NAACP Youth supervisor Ted Bryan coordinated this event. We wish Peggie Bieberbach a very "Happy Birthday"! She is a sales representative for the AA Shore Motor Club Office in Burleigh and is also deputymayor of Lower Township. MIDDLE TOWNSHIP parents and guardians are reminded to bring their children's birth certificate or copies when they register the youngsters in the Little League Baseball Program at the Leroy May Community center in Court House 9 a.m. -noon March 15. Any child who will be 6 years old but under 16 by Aug. 1 is eligible to participate. Everyone must, register. TEACHERS^AND administrators in "the Middle Township School District have been reviewing several process-writing programs with the intention of adopting a new program districtwide within the next two school years.
Programs viewed to date are: Project W.R.I.T.&E ( Glass bo ro Public Schools > ; I L A (Individualized Lang uage Arts Program. Weehawken Public Schools i. and the Maryland I.T.V. writing project. Edith l.udlam is the district's compensatory education supervisor. Dr David Hirsch will open a veterinary hospital on Route 9 in Burleigh in late spring. THE CHILDREN in Irene Cohen's kindergarten class and Carol Holden's first grade class at Elementary School 1 recently enjoyed a presentation by Hsiu-hsiang Hsu. Mrs. Hsu, a native of Taiwan, explained to the children how Chinese families celebrate the New Year.
The students learned that the five-day celebration to usher in "The Year of the Tiger" includes food preparation, visiting relatives. and gift-giving to the children These gifts include new clothes and red envelopes holding goodvluck money. Hsu then presented the children with their own good-luck money. Rice cakes were enjoyed by everyone at the end of the presentation. STUDENTS AT Elementary School 3 have been enjoying the use of a large projection screen television in the school's auditorium for the past two months The school's P.T.A. paid half the cost of the television. One of the first programs that the students viewed on the new television was the memorial service for the

Students in Virginia HeslJ inga's class at Elementary School 3 went on a field trip and toured the Kindle Ford Automobile Dealership in Wildwood Feb. 26. Juanita Battle, a counselor for the Coalition Against Rape and Abuse (CARA>. was the guest speaker at the Court House Kiwanis Club Meeting Feb. 20. ' She spoke and showed a film on domestic violence which is a problem needing resources to help families resolve conflicts which lead to physical abuse. THERE ARE still plenty of seats left for the bus trip March 1 1 to the Philadelphia Flower Show. The bus will leave Jamesway at I p.m. and will return at approximately 8:30 p.m Reservations are required for the Middle Township Recreation Department-sponsored trip. Call 465-3520
