ji Dining & Entertainment |T W Guide • ^ ( 1 By Libby Demp Forrest t MID-MARCH is coming along and the first day of spring is just over a week away. Late winter can be an irksome fella, but he's shrinking away. Every sunshiny day gives intense delight, and the welcome sound of bird songs gives a special thrill. Have you been listening? The earth will soon be putting on her most delicate colors. Keep a watch. Along with the burst of spring come all the seasonal chores that have to be done. Before you know it there will be spring chores aplenty to keep us busy, We make our list of things to be done, and one by one, check them off. The beginning of springtime is signaled for us by the appearance of a single crocus that pops up mysteriously in the middle of the backyard. We never planted it ourselves, but each spring it suddenly appears one morning, all by itself, victorious over winter. We went looking for it the other day, but it still hadn't appeared. We'll just have to be patient. \ MILD WEATHER one day, not so mild weather the next J J day with a brisk wind as cold as any January day. That's / March for you. As time goes by, we have to marvel at Mother Nature ^ who seems to make each springtime just a little more I beautiful than the one we remember from a year ago. What's her secret, do you think? While springtime gets stirring, our appetite for good food and good times gets ready for a new season. Here are several places where springtime is astir: BRIAN'S PLACE. Experience the best in dining at Avalon's Brian's Place, located at 2400 Dune Drive. Open 1 seven days and six nights ( closed Tuesday nights only ) . it ' serves breakfast, lunch and dinner to satisfy every taste (Breakfast on Saturday and Sunday is served from 8 a.m. to 12 noon). Some of Brian's great specialties include the Fried Seafood Combination (a special favorite of ours); the Vegetable Lasagna, a combination of milk, lasagna noodles and cheeses; and the seafood and pasta served over linguine with marinara sauce. Desserts include homemade apple pie, chocolate mousse Bavarian, German chocolate layer cake and French cheesecake WINDRIFT. The Windrift will be celebrating St. Patrick's Day March 14 and 15 with special features for all to enjoy. Located at 80th and the Beach in Avalon. the Windrift marks its grand opening with a St Paddy's Party to remember. There'll be pa>ty favors, hats, prizes, prizes, Irish music by the "Wee Lepcechaun", Radar and Teddy O'Steinmetz. a limerick contest and of course, great food Reservations are suggested for this two day event — call 368-5175. WASHINGTON INN. Cape May's excellent Washington Inn, at 801 Washington Street has reopened for the season and is once more serving dinners Friday, Saturday and 1 Sunday evenings from 5 p.m. on. , A treasure in itself, the Washington Inn has an inviting 9 atmosphere in an elegant historic house, circa 1856. Innkeepers Toby and Rona Craig choose only the finest vegetables, seafood, beef and chicken. The desserts offer - just the perfect final touch - and include freshly made pies ^ from the Washington Inn kitchens. WHITEBRIER INN. Everybody will be out this V weekend celebrating St. Patrick's Day, and the 1 Whitebrier Inn, at 20th Street between Ocean and Dune drives, Avalon will be marking the occasion with a special I Irish dinner and sing-a-long this Saturday, March 15. * Dinner will be served from 5 p.m. in the gracious style of Irish food, as good as anything on the Emerald Isle itself.
