Church Has SIC Events

SEA ISLE CITY - The United Methodist Church. Kennedy Boulevard and Park Road, is planning a series of events in March. In addition to the regular Sunday worship services at 11 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Sunday school is held 9:45a.m. every Sunday. March 16, 17, and 18 (Sunday. Monday and Tuesday) a marriage filmy series, "The Care and Maintenance of a Good Marriage," will be presented. The series will begin 7:30 Sunday evenings.

MARCH 23. Palm Sunday, 11 a.m. there will be reception of new members. The Children's Choir will provide special music. March 27, 7:30 p.m. Maundy Thursday Communion Service. Music will be presented by the choir. March 28, 7:30 p.m. Tenebrae Service will be held at the church. '\ March 30 Community Sunrise Service is scheduled 1 a.m. at JFK and Boardwalk. NORTH WILDWOOD'S assessed valuation climbed $13 million last year, to $396,523,929. Its 1986 budget is up by $873,560, or 13 percent, to $7.6 million. • That means a tax rate increase of nine cents per hundred dollars of assessed valuation, bringing the tax rate to $1.10. Taxes on a property assessed at $100,000 would increase $90, to $1,100. The city finished 1985 with a $1.6 million surplus and Budget at a Glance will use $1.2 million of it in the 1986 budget and carry over the remainder. Among other anticipated budget revenues. • $437,700 in franchise and gross receipt taxes, a $49,341 increase. • $198,700 in municipal court fees a $22,700 increase. • $116,400 in construction fees, a $27,000 increase Among anticipated budget appropriations: • $2,650,739 for total salaries and wages, a $171,874 increase. • $261,442 for group insurance for employes, a $57,442 increase. . 1 •,$260,000 in mandated service costs to the county z "Municipal Utilities Authority, a $70,000 increase.

'West Side Story' Returns to LCMR

ERMA — The students of Lower Cape May Regional High School will present the Leonard Bernstein. Stephen Sondheim, Jerome Robbins smash musical, West Side Story 8 p.m. tomorrow, Friday, and Saturday in the high school auditorium Route 9. Nine years ago in 1977, Cape May audiences thrilled at this musical tragedy, when Charles Stile and Lorraine Iampietro led Gay Willis, George Kelly, Joe Marks, and 50 of their classmates through their paces on the Schmidtchen stage, telling the perennial tale of unrequited love buried by the hatred of social prejudice and selfrighteous idignation. THIS YEARS production promises to live up to the tradition established.by the last. Jeff Coon of Cape May and Jennifer Loper of I North Cape May are

showcased as the starcrossed young lovers. Tony and Maria. Shark gangleader. Bernardo, and Jet general. Riff, are portrayed by John Rodriguez of Villas, and Chris Wallace of North Cape May. Supporting players include Annika Blomkvest as Maria's sister, Anita; Scott King as Chino; Joe Sid^ and Dennis Dowe as Jet members Diesel and Action; Beki Snyder as Anybody's. Robert Reiss and Paul Jennings as Detective Shrank and Officer Krupke, and Jay Coldren as Doc THE ORCHESTRAL score is handled by 30 student musicians under the baton of Edward T. Jurewicz. Original jazz choreography is rendered by Stina Hemingway, director of the Jersey Cape Dance Center in Burleigh, and the student company's resident dance mistress since 1979. Sandy Beane, vocal and piano instructor at the high school, is the voice coach. Set design and construction are by staff member John Engler. who holds a bachelor s degree in stage design from the University of Northern Colorado Returning to Lower's stage after a 9-year absence is art director Patty Scheper. a graduate of Lower and an artist for the original production in 1977. COSTUMING IS by Lynn Massimiano, Carol Karcher and company; head gaffer and technical designer is Michael Holden. » The entire production is staged by Paul J. North Wildwood. 'will be competing ih the March 14 "Spirit of America" pagent at the Ocean City Music Pier to raise money for restoring the Statue of Liberty. She is a student at St. Ann's Regional School and the Joanne Reagan dance studio.
