Beach Creek Shoal Dredging Started

NORTH WILDWOOD - Work has begun on a $287,600 project to dredge Beach Creek on the west side of the city. Mayor Lewis Vinci has reported. The project is to clear the channel for boating before the start of the summer 1 tourist season, Vinci u explained. ■ Barnegat Bay Dredging ] Co. has received the conI tract from the Department of Environmental Protection's Division of Coastal Resources. VINCI SAID the plan is to remove some 48,000 cubic yards of material from Hereford Inlet to Ottens' Canal, at the foot of l8th Avenue, a distance of 8,800 feet. The Beach Creek will be dredged to a depth of seven feet below mean low water, 100 feet across, j "Much shoaling has occurred in Beach Creek over the years and this project will provide a clear, safe channel for recreational boaters," Vinci said. Vinci said Barnegat Bay Dredging Co. will work 24 hours a day, six days a week except Sunday, if conditions permit. The dredge

spoil area is near Hereford Inlet, on a site selected by federal and state authorities. Mayor Vinci said he has been monitoring the project for some time along with Bernard J. Moore, chief of the Division of Coastal Resources.

Duus Given AF Medal Master Sgt. David M. Duus. son of Caroline J. and Alfred M. Duus of Voorhees, has been decorated with the second award of the Air Force Commendation Medal in West Germany. The Medal is awarded to individuals who demonstrate outstanding achievement or meritorious service in the performance of their duties on behalf of the Air Force. The amount to be raised by local taxes, including the reserve for uncollected taxes, decreased $15,606 to $198,507. Municipal accountant Kenneth W. Moore estimated the Budget at a Clarice tax rate will decrease 4.5 cents, to 69.3 cents per hundred dollars of assessed valuation. Taxes on a property assessed at $50,000 would be $346.50. The borough finished 1985 with a $230,297 surplus and will use $200,000 of it in the 1986 budget-.and carry over the remainder. Among other anticipated budget revenues are: • $72,000 from franchise and gross receipt taxes, a $5,377 increase. • $71,425 from the state Department of Transportation for reconstruction of Adams Avenue. • $148,00Q in receipts from delinquent taxes, a $14,000 increase. • $13,250 from municipal court costs, a $3,250 increase. Among anticipated budget appropriations are: • $157,000 for salaries and wages, a $20,478 increase • $52,860 for road repairs and maintenance, a $7,500 increase. • $13,478 for fire hydrant services, a $12,425 increase • $8,500 for group insurance for employes, a $1,000 increase.

City Honors Eagle Scout

SEA ISLE CITY - The city has honored local Boy Scout George H. Ritterson Jr.. for having attained the rank of Eagle Scout, in ceremonies held at a Board of Commissioners Meeting. Ritterson is a member of Sea Isle City Troop 76. "*Sea Isle City has perhaps the largest number of Eagle Scouts in the area". Commissioner William VanArtsdalen noted, "and this is due in a

large part to the dedication and devotion of Troop 76's long time scoutmaster. Jim English." The City of Sea Isle City is proud to publicly note the achievements of George Ritterson Jr.. on his attaining the rank of Eagle Scout,"' VanArtsdalen noted, "and the members of the hoard of commissioners and the people of the city are very proud of him."
