Weekend Sparked By Gaslight Tours

CAPE MAY - Easter weekend will mark the first Mansions by Gaslight Tour of the year here, as well as operation of Trolley. Walking, and House Museum tours of the resort 's Victorian attractions. The gaslight tour will be held 8-10 p.m. Saturday, and is sponsored by the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts. It covers the distinctive features of four of the city's restored vintage homes. TICKETS FOR the Mansions By Gaslight Tour may be purchased at the Emlen Physick House. 1048 Washington Street, starting one half hour before tour time. The Emlen Physick House ( 1048 Washington St.). designed by famous architect Frank Furness, which is the MAC headquarters. THE ABBEY (Columbia ! Avenue and Gurney Street), built in 1869 for a Pennsylvania coal baron, is an outstanding example of Gothic Revi va 1 architecture. The Mainstay Inn (635 Columbia Ave.) was built ' in 1872 as a posh gentlemen's gambling club and it is a classic example of the Italianate Style. The Wilbraham Mansion (133 Myrtle Ave), begun as a simple country farmhouse in 1840, was expanded and Victorianized in 1900 by the Wilbraham industrial family from Philadelphia to become the massive structure it is t today. THE OTHER tours will be featured throughout the weekend, included are: Trolley tours of the National Landmark District are half hour long and begin at Ocean Street, opposite the Washington Street Mall. During Easter weekend, MAC will offer two Trolley Tours: The Historic East End Tour includes the historic Physick Estate, two Victorian hotels — the Chalfonte and the Colonial picturesque Columbia Avenue, busy Ocean Street, and' tree-lined Hughes Street. The Tour will depart on the following , schedule: 4 Saturday. March 29. 4 10:30 a.m.. noon and 1:45 ^ p.m.. Sunday. March 30. i 10:30 a.m. and noon. Monday. March 31. 10:30 a m 1 and noon.
