Avalon Announces Spring Rec Slate

AVALON — The spring schedule of the borough Recreation Department effective this month until the start of the summer schedule in June, has been announced by Dave Haberle, director of recreation. ' Spirit of America ' Pageant Winners

OCEAN CITY - The Music Pier on the Boardwalk was the scene of the first "Spirit of America" preliminary pageant, with 40 contestants entered. The pageant was planned to help the Statue of Liberty Restoration Fund, with part of each entry fee going to the fund. The pageant was organized by Miss Georgeann, director of Georgeann's Delaware Valley Modeling Schools of Oaklyn and Ocean City. Miss Georgeann has been teaching modeling for 27 years and has been an area director of the U.S. Model of the Year Pageant for the last 10 years.

PAGEANT WINNERS were: Francis Michelle Barth, and Gia Marcella Chiarella , both of Wildwood, in the Miss Cherub Division. 1 to 4; Louis Vitiello of South Seaviile. in the Master Cherub Division, 1 to 4; Toni Zuccarello of North Wildwood, in the Tiny Miss Division, age 5 to 8; James Vitiello of South Seaviile, in the Tiny Master Division, 5 to 8. The Congeniality Awards went to Louis Vitiello of South Seaviile. Award for Most Photogenic went to Heather Ann Lange of Rio Grande. r All finalists will be eligible to go to New York Oct 28 for the special ceremonies of the Statue of Liberty unveiling. Trip to Zoo WILDWOOD - A picnic trip to the Philadelphia Zoo for the benefit of St. Jude Cancer Research Hospital will be held May 3, with the bus leaving the Wildwood Bus Depot and making a stop at Jamesway 1n Court House. Avalon Revises Schedule AVALON — Changes in the Community Hall activities schedule, including the separation of age groups, have been made by Dave Haberle, recreation director, to make the facility safer and more enjoyable. The separation of ages is to provide more playing space as well as reduce accidental collisions. Haberle says. THE CHANGES, effective April 15, are: Saturday Free Activity — 12-2 p.m., 6th Grade and under; 2-4 p.m., 7th Grade and older; 7-8:30 p.m.. 6th Grade and under; 8:30-10 p.m., 7th Grade and older. Sunday Free Activity — 12 p.m. -2 p.m.. 6th Grade and under; 2-4 p.m.. 7th Grade and older; beginning April 20 when the basketball league is completed. 7-9 p.m.. 7th Grade and older. With the increase in missing/kidnapped children another new policy will now be enforced: In the 6th grade and under time slots children must wait inside the building until their parents oick them up. FOR THOSE children who walk or ride bikes, once they leave the building they will not be allowed to return Loitering in front of 'Community is prohibited Those in the older age time slot are asked not to arrive before the appropriate time.
