Hits U.S. License

TRENTON - Assemblyman Guy F. Muziani has announced his opposition to the federally proposed saltwater fishing license fee. According to Muziani. the $10 fee. requested by President Reagan in this year's federal budget proposal. would threaten shore tourism and harm the state's charter and party

boat industry. "Imposing a fee on one of the favorite pastimes of shore visitors would only serve to curb the number of tourists attracted to our summer resort areas." said Muziani. R-Cape May. Cumberland. "COUNTLESS beachgoers are drawn to the Jersey coast to fish." he said. "And countless numbers will stay away if this proposal comes to fruitioq/" Muziani, co-sponsor of a resolution urging Congress to oppose the request, said that in addition to curtailing casual tourists, a salt water fishing license requirement could mean undue hardship for businesses that rely on the more serious salt water fisherman for income. "The boating industry has suffered severe setbacks over the past 10 years because of rising fuel prices, spiraling insurance fees and interest rates and other circumstances beyond the control of the industry," Muziani continued. •SHOULD THE President's proposal gain approval. 1 believe there will be even Viore trouble ahead for the struggling business. "Representatives from the boating industry have already voiced their opposition to such licensing, and with due cause. Persons who take their families and friends out for a nice relaxing day of fishing would think twice before doing so if they had to pay for licensing fees in addition to the cost of renting a boat." he said.
