Police Unit At Full Strength
NEW CASTLE. DE - The expansion of the police force for the Delaware River and Bay Authority at the Cape May Lewes Ferry is now complete. William J. Miller Jr.. executive director for the Delaware River and Bay Authority, reports that ail the necessary officers have been hired to bring the police force to its assigned level of 53. THE LAST five officers to join the force started their police training at the Delaware State Police Academy March 10. When the training is completed, the officers will be assigned to Cape May or Lewes. At Lewes, .newlyrenovated temporary police facilities now occupy the former concession stand, which was replaced by a new terminal building in 1985. THE POLICE officers assigned to the ferry unit will assist in traffic control for vehicles as they board and leave the ferry vessels. In addition, uniformed police officers will ride each ferry as it crosses the 17-mile stretch of water for
the 70-minute trip between Cape May and Lewes The authority has announced that new permanent facilities for ferrypersonnel . for the concession and gift shop activities
and for the police force will be built at the Cape May terminal and at Lewes. Bids for the1 Cape May pro ject are expected this April and in mid summer for the Lewes addition.
