County Workers In Driver Course
COURT HOUSE - Freeholder Ralph Evans has announced that 200 Cape May County employes who operate county-owned vehicles recently completed a threehour course in defensive driving, which was arranged by members of the county Safety Board. In 1985. the safety board was established by the freeholders to "provide and monitor a program to assure safe and healthful working conditions for all employes of the county, as well as the general public." said Evans, who is the freeholder liaison to the board. SINCE ITS inception the safety board has provided
training to county employes in such other areas as the use of fire extinguishers and proper methods of lifting. Mary Rowe. acting chairperson, explained that defensive driving jtfas decided upon by the Freeholders because of the safe-driving record of county Fare-Free Transportation.
"Defense drive training is one of the requirements of all fare-free drivers." said Rowe, who is also director of that department. "FARE-FREE drivers are on the road for eight hours every day and, in 13 years of operation, have never had an accident that resulted in serious injury to
theif "passengers . " The course, sponsored by the National Safety Coun cil, is designed to teach the individual how to drive defensively: to prevent accidents in spite of the incorrect actions of others and adverse conditions. "Hopefully," said Evans, "the county will realize a decrease in motor vehiclerelated accidents as a result".
