Dining & Entertainment HikS Cuid\ IfcfT figpf , = , By Libby Demp Forrest < = } WELCOME SWEET SPRINGTIME - wherever we look or listen, we know it's spring. The farmers are plowing their fields and gardeners are getting busy. Our landscape is showing pastel colors - no leaves on the trees yet, but Mother Nature each day is stroking subtle colors on tree bark and grass. And up on the trees, birds are starting to make their nests, and some of our feathered friends who've been with us all winter are now flying north. Down in the ponds the toads and frogs are laying their eggs this week. As each day begins, and as each day closes, we hear the enchanting songs of birds once more. We've missed their songs all winter. LUNCHTIME WE LIKE TO RAMBLE around CoQrt House, observing birds and listening to their songs. Yes, Court House is becoming quite a bustling place nowadays and we observe changes taking place everyday, but there are still places here and there where birds spend a few moments on budding tree limbs. On warm, sunny days you're apt to find the storm door left ajar at the newspaper office so that we can listen to bird songs as we pound our typewriters. As April unfolds, we'll be shedding our winter clothes and putting on the colors of spring and summer. We can't wait... Now that we're all stepping out again, we want to enjoy the best of the new season. Eating out is one of our favorite ways to enjoy the companionship of family and friends. Here are several restaurants that are especially enjoyable: TORTILLA FLATS. Open once again. Tortilla Flats at 2540 Dune Drive, Avalon offers the flavors of Mexico to our corner of the world. Dine in or take out at Tortilla Flats, and feast on such entrees as Wild To6tado (beef or chicken beans and cheese piled high on a giant flour tortilla, topped off with lettuce, tomatoes, quacamole and sour cream), or Steak and Enchilada ( top sirloin cooked to order, served with a cheese enchilada, salsa and fries) Tortilla Flats also serves a Basic Burger, Tex-Mex Burger, and Taco Salad. Sundays enjoy the special brunch. Call for hours - 967-5658. PEACHES. This unusual cafe located at 322 Carpenter's Lane at Washington St. Mall and Sawyer Walk in Cape May serves an international menu on a sidewalk terrace. A pleasant change of pace from the ordinary, Peaches features Thai specialties, unusual seafood, vegetarian dishes, scrumptious sweets and fine coffee. One of our favorite dishes is the grilled tangerine chicken with snow peas and almond£ (a boneless breast marinated, then grilled with tangerine sauce). The sauteed shrimp and avocado with Mexican salsa verge is another favorite. THE WINDRIFT. The Windrift offers a deluxe menu that even the most discrimating diners find flawless. Located at 80th and Beach, Avalon. the Windrift is now serving breakfast Sat. and Sun. from 12 to 3, dinners Fri. and Sat. 5:30-9:30 and Sun. 4-8.
