Cape May Slates April House Tours
CAPE MAY - Trolley, Walking, and House Museum Tours will be featured throughout April in the nation's oldest seashore resort. The MidAtlantic Center for the Arts (MAC) will sponsor: Trolley Tours of the National Landmark District, which Trolley Tours are I* hour long, cost $3.50 per adult and $1.00 per child, begin at Ocean Street, opposite the Washington Street Mall. In April, MAC will offer two distinct Trolley Tours: THE HISTORIC East End Tour \includes the historic Phyfrick Estate, two Victorian hotels. Columbia Avenue, Ocean i Street, and tree-lined Hughes Street, the oldest residential street in the city. The tour will depart on the following schedules: Saturdays, 10:30 a.m., noon and 1:45 p.m.; Sundays, 10:30 a.m. and noon. The historic West End Tour includes stately Congress Hall, the Huntington House, the famous Pink House, Congress Place, Perry Street, and the aligned porches of Decatur Street. The tour will depart on the following schedules : Saturdays, 11:15 a.m. 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.; Sundays, 11:15 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. WALKING TOURS of the National Landmark District provide an intimate insight into Cape May's intriguing past, present, and future. ,, Tours begin at the Information Booth at the head of the Washington Street Mall on the following schedule: Saturdays 11 a.m.. and Sundays. 11 a.m. Tours of the Emlen Estate, 1048 Washington St.. features the 16- room , house designed by renowned architect Frank Furness and build in 1879 in the
Stick Style. These tours run son the following schedule: Saturdays, every 45 minutes: 10:30 a.m. -2: 15 p.m. Sundays, every 45 minutes: 10:30 a.m. -12:45 p.m." COMBINATION Trolley/Physick Estate Tours run at noon every TUesday and Thursday in April. These tours begin at the Emlen Physick Estate, with an hour-long guided trolley tour that covers both the East End and West End Historic Districts in MAC's heated, enclosed trolley-bus. Upon returning to the estate, visitors are guided through the interior of the Physick House. Ending the tour on a festive note, visitors are served hot cider and goodies in the i Physick House kitchen. Tickets are on sale at the entrance to the Physick . House. No reservations are necessary.
Irving Berlin Highlighted CAPE MAY - Rose Haering will present the life to date of the U.S. composer Irving Berlin, prolific writer of 20th Century songs, in her "Music Highlights" program Thursday, April 10. The free lecture-recital will be given 1:30 p.m. at the Cape Island Baptist Church, Columbia Avenue and Guerney Street. 'Red Wagon' Lunch, Show CAPE MAY — Cape May Chapter, National Christ Child Society, will present its "Red Wagon '-Express" * luncheon and fashion-show noon-3:30 p.m. Sunday, April 13, at the Grand Hotel, formerly the Golden Eagle Inn, Beach Drive.
