Coach of the Year Picks At Middle High School
| When the time came to J pick the Cape May County I boys and girls basketball ] Coach of the Year, voters j didn't have to look beyond I Middle Township High I Schogl Boys coach Tom Feraco didn't kick chairs onto the court, tear towels up or whirl his suit coat across the floor to get attention: He simply won basketball games. FALLING JUST SHORT of a Cape Atlantic League (CALi title and a South Jersey ticket to the semifinals. Feraco's trophy was an undefeated season in the Big Four (Cape May County), which is an unusual feat to accomplish. Feraco had the privilege of coaching county all-star I Dion Coley.
Coley, a transfer from the Bahamas, averaged 17 points and six rebounds for the Panthers. Girls Coach of the Year Gary Barber produced a 23-5 record and a shot at the South Jersey title. Six years of assistant coaching gave Barber a lot of practice, and now it's known that the man has been doing his homework. IT'S INTERMISSION TIME on the sports front as baseball, softball. boy's tennis. golf and track teams warm up with the weather.
Meanwhile, local athletes representing Cape MayCounty in college baseball have already given the Jersey shore a good name on the diamond. Wildwood Catholic graduate Sebastian Balestrier has owned a catcher's mask at Glassboro State College for two years now. Balestrier was an all-star at Catholic and seems to be defending his reputation with a .250 batting average as a sophomore. A nome run and 14 RBIs were also on his tab last season. THIS YEAR'S SEASON opener featured Balestrier with a couple of hits in an 8-4 win over Boca Raton. Former Wildwood star
Bill Osborn is displaying his All-CAL style at the University of Pittsburgh. Osborn poked a pair of hits and two RBIs in the Panther's home opener in Panama City, Fla. He covered the number three bag in the 7-2 victory. Wildwood Catholic graduate John Pareja. Lower Cape May graduate Jim Peck and Joe Jones, formerly of Ocean City High School, are swinging bats for Atlantic Community College. With Pareja whirling from the pitcher's mound. Peck working in the outfield and Jones stretching at first, the Bucaneers have a season to look forward to.
Chamber Tourney May 7 COURT HOUSE - Cape May County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Bob Patterson announced the 1986 Spring Golf Tournament will be held Wednesday. May 7. at the Stone Harbor Golf Club. The tournament will begin | with a "shot gun start" 9 I a.m. An awards luncheon will follow the 18 holes of golf. A dozen trophies will be awarded after the buffet luncheon. Registration forms are being sent to all chamber members and friends which must bete filled out and returned to the chamber office on the Garden State Parkway at Crest Haven Road. REGISTRATION FEE includes the buffet luncheon. The registration fee must be paid before golfers will be officially paired. Once the registration forms are filled out, they must be returned to the chamber office with the registration fee not later than May 1. Registration blanks are available from the chamber office and the Stone Harbor Golf Club, Route 9. Swainton. For more details contact Barbara Biller, at the chamber office. 465-7181. A rain date of May 8 has been set. All golfers in the area are invited to come out for a morning of golf and the luncheon. Gray Finishes USAF Course BAY SHORE WEST - Tech. Sgt. Gary G. Gray, son of Lawrence and Rose Gray of 103 Eillott Road, has graduated from the U.S. Air Force technical training instructor course at Keesler Air Force Base, Miss. He is a 1969 graduate of Cape May High School.
Tee-Ball Signups VILLAS - The Lower Township Recreation Department will hold signups for the Tee-Ball League Saturday. April 12. noon to 4 p.m. at The Recreation Center on Bayshore Road. The program is open to all boys and girls between 6 and 9 years of age who are resrtlents of Lower Township. Prospects must be 6 before May 1 . A birth certificate or other proof of age must be shown at. the signups. Those who played last year must signup again this year
