Head Start Goal Of Library Week
Chrysler chairman Lee Iacocca is driving home a new message. Star quarterback Dan Marino of the Miami Dolphins is calling a new play. World-class boxer Sugar Ray Leonard and his sons are championing a new cause. An awesome team is spreading the word: Get a Head Start at the Library. From boarrfrbom to grid to the ring, the winning spirit starts at the library. Research shows that children who have been exposed to reading and other cultural experiences before they begin school have a better chance at success in formal learning. Moreover. 50 percent of intellectual development occurs between birth and 4 years of age. LIBRARIES have long been concerned with promoting reading to children, and today they are placing
even greater emphasis on family reading activities to help fight America's growing illiteracy problem. Story hours, crafts, puppet shows, songs and games are among the children's programs libraries offer. The Cape May County Library is filled with information and ideas on researching papers, selecting a college, finding a job, making a career change, planning retirement. Anyone can find out how to prepare tax returns, buy a house or plant a garden THE LIBRARY'S literacy program helps functionally illiterate 4 adults learn to read, so they can give their children a head start. Persons can volunteer to be tutors by calling Andy Martin at the Lower Cape Branch of the County Library, 886-8999. National Library Week is April 6-12.
