Dining & Entertainment ( mmm , By Libby Demp Forrest ( , THO APRIL SHOWERS bring May flowers we like April s bright sunshiny days and the burst of spring flowers we are seeing everyday. There are ample daffodils and hyacinths blooming in Cape May where we happen to live, and they are whetting our appetite for the blooms ahead. And oh, as spring progresses day by day, we're opening the windows more and more to let out the old winter dust. And to let in. of course, the sweet-smelling fragrance of springtime. We're enjoying the bright splashes of golden forsythia as we make our way around town. We're also enjoying the very precious moments of seeing again old friends and acquaintances who are out and about again these spring days and evenings. Each day we see once-familiar faces we promise to get together soon. PHYSICAL FITNESS seems to be on everybody's mind now that springtime is here for sure. The runners, the joggers. the bike riders and the walkers are out there in earnest, inspired by Mother's Nature. Biking with a friend or two always gives us a great feeling of pleasure. Oh, the world is apt to seem more wondrous when seen through the eyes of more than one. Don't you agree? This week our recommendation to you is to take a walk or jog with a friend. Also recommended on this week's agenda is the pleasure of dining out, also in the company of a favorite person or v persons. Here are several restaurants we'd like to suggest : 1 1 BRENT'S. Brent's Restaurant, at the end of the Parkway 7 off Rt. 109 has now opened for the season, and this favorite family restaurant offers a well-rounded menu that is sure to please every appetite. The weekday lunch special is a great mid-day value for only $2.50, and the Friday dinner special served from 5 to 6:30 P.M. includes soup, salad, two vegetables, rolls and jello — all for just $4.75. Brent's Sunday dinner has been a local favorite for many years — chicken pot pie. a regional favorite, still affordably priced. Brent's is open 6 a.m.-l p.m. Mon.-Thurs., (closed Tuesdays), Sat. 6 a.m.-l p.m. and 4 to 8 p.m.; Sun. 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. CASABLANCA. Wear your slouch hat and put on your foreign accent, and enjoy the new Casablanca Restaurant, in the Terminal Building at the Cape May County Airport. While you won't meet Ingrid or Bogey awaiting their plane, you are going to enjoy a delicious meal with all the flavor of a soon-to-be-celebrated scenic restaurant. Frankly, we love the excitement of airport restaurants, even if we're only out for an afternoon drive. There's something about them that seems to appeal to that feeling of wanting to embark on a great trip. Your appetite will be amply awarded with a delicious meal breakfast and lunch time. The homemade soups are excellent. Casablanca (oh, we love that name) is open 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily. LATOQUE. LaToque, at 210 Ocean Street. Cape May is a perfect small restaurant where discriminating appetites are exquisitely satisfied. Reminiscent of restaurants we knew along the West Bank of Paris years ago, it offers fanciful cuisine beautifully turn- . ed out in a most pleasant atmosphere. Elsewhere, you would ri pay a hefty price for the quality offered at LaToque, but / 1 it manages to offer customers extraordinary gourmet food / for ordinary prices. Located in the downtown historic area, it is quickly becoming a Cape May tradition. THE COUNTRY HOUSE. The Country House Restaurant, on Route 9, Burleigh has been a county landmark for more than a quarter of a century. We've always enjoyed our stops here for a tasty dinner and come back time after time to enjoy the especially good turkey. There are many fine dishes on the Country House menu, including fried shrimp stuffed with deviled crab, leg of lamb with mint jelly and broiled pork chops, but we got hooked on the wonderful stuffed turkey years ago, and so nearly always order it ourselves. P S. We are also hooked on the homemade pies.
